trooper boys, do you notice if you belch smoke whenever you step on the accelerator and/or when your tranny changes gears? napapansin ko kasi napapatingin ako sa side mirror ko because of it.

is this normal or do i have to have it calibrated? weird kasi mas mausok pa this trooper than our 1995 hilux with 140kms on the odo.

    gjtech,
Yup, my trooper smokes from the exhaust too IF you don't drive it at highway speeds or rev it to 3500 rpm every week.
Can't calibrate this engine at the usual places since it's got electronic injection.
Are you using the right oil- a 5w30 or 10w30 diesel oil? I'll smoke with thicker oils.

jackaroo, do you hold 3500 rpm at how many secs and how many times do you step on it? sa isuzu dealership pa lang this one na service so i guess tama yung oil, btw what do they use? thanks for the tip ha! if it needs calibration covered ba ng warranty yun?

benny010, pag inobservahan mo be careful at para wag mabangga hehehe...

wiretap, boybi, afrasay, pajerokid thanks for your replies!

    gjtech,
I hardly have to rev mine since i bring it on long trips often. Try holding revs for 5secs and do this until the smoke clears.
Isuzu uses Besco 10w30 oil- check my thread on "Besco oil test" in this forum.
BTW, don't use water on the exhaust pipes since this engine uses a catalytic converter.

gjtech, I don't own a trooper but I drive one once in awhile. My suggestion is not to be paranoid. Normal the smoke on all diesels. it's just a matter of how much. and if really bad. Of course 'bad' is a new topic of its own. :D

"BTW, don't use water on the exhaust pipes since this engine uses a catalytic converter"

gtech, guys. I noticed pala with the trooper, the exhaust while idling have a weird smell, parang drug na matapang. do you all notice this?

Yup. The Trooper has a catalytic converter and the odor that you smell is the byproduct of the converter after converting the noxious gases to environment-friendly gas.

    benny010,
Some people clean the inside of their exhaust pipes with water to flush out the soot. We can't do this on the trooper since water may reach the catalytic converter and damage it.
In general, our diesel fuel is inferior to that of other western countries so you can't expect a smoke-free exhaust from our vehicles.

so its bad to wash the exhaust pipes on your own with water? how much does it cost to clean the exhaust and how often should we clean this? I notice that Troopers are smoke belchers compare to other diesel suvs.

its not adviseable to wash your tailpipes with water if its equipped with a catalytic converter. it will damage your cat. converter.

mas mausok talaga ang Trooper yung mga 4JX1 di naman masyado pero comparing it to say 4d56 or 4m40 or td42, mas mausok talaga. Use right oil as posted.

Bosing try using Total diesel. I used to have one and observed that Total emits the least smoke.
