Medyo magiging problema mo lang diyan is the door sill clearance. Mababa, eh. Hindi katulad ng sa mga hi-riders like the Frontier and Strada na frame rails muna ang tatama.
Hindi naman gaano importante ang clearance kasi no matter how high you go, you will still get hit.

Hi! I'm posting for the first time but I've been browsing the forums for about two months already and i'm impressed with the advices you guys have been giving the novices like me. Please advice me if for a budget of 380K i'll be able to find a good Isuzu Fuego pick-up 4x2 (but 4x4 preferred) model 2000 upwards. Is the Fuego the better choice compared to other pickups in terms of fuel efficiency & low maintenance? Appreciate your help and looking forward to your replies, as well as offers from prospective sellers. Thanks a lot!
sir, you can surely get a good 4x2 unit with your budget but if you prefer the 4x4, you might need to raise it up to around P450-480k. I think there's one being sold here in tsikot's classifieds. However, you can fit a 99 and lower models with your budget (although chances are puro high mileage na ang mga ito like mine! hehehe).
As far as reliability? I think everyone will agree that older isuzu models have been proven with its reliability (i'm speaking about the pre-CRDi ones). Although im not saying that new ones are not...d plang proven siguro because they're still new.
neways, from first hand experience, matibay naman ang mga isuzu pickups...pero sobrang ingay ngalang...nakakadagdag ren sa pagod ang maingay. pero mine has already done 205k kms and ok pa naman. although may mga signs na that she's on her way to rebuilding (maybe another 5 years). Ganyan naman siguro lahat basta alaga.
HTH
Actually 1999 to 2001 Isuzu 4x2 pick-up look exactly the same. The 1999 pick-up is much better looking since the whole unit is single in color while the 2001 model has a stainless grill (uugghh!)
BTW, are you looking for pick-up that's properly maintained (i.e. no scratches and dents) and low mileage? or are you one of those who wanna experiment on old pick-ups?
Hi BeetOls and Initital - "Dito"! Maraming salamat sa replies ninyo. Sori, ngayon lang ako nakabalik on-line. I've decided na Isuzu Fuego 4x4 ang kukunin ko and i've upped my budget to 420K. I've asked around sa mga friends ko and they are in agreement na da best talaga ang Isuzu, yun nga lang may downside sa pagiging maingay, but i think i can live with that.
Sir, I'm happy to hear that your pick-up has already logged 205K and still doing okay. Me, i'm willing to get model 1998 upwards 4x4 that would fit my budget and 1st priority din yung well maintained at tsaka low mileage, if ever. I'm not that particular sa looks ng different models, basta Isuzu happy na ako dyan. And i'm not into experimenting also on older pick-ups kasi medyo tight yung finances ko at wala din time, at si Misis medyo mahigpit din sa unnecessary expenses, hehehe. Di pag ganun experimenting sometimes you're at the mercy of the shops pag wala kang alam at yung budget mo minsan open-ended. So i'd rather go for a well-maintained pick-up that won't give me major headaches (at least for a few years) and one that i can use immediately.
I'm based in the province (Visayas) but my brod-in-law in Manila is right now looking for a suitable Isuzu pick-up for me.
Hi habagat, i have owned my fuego for more than 6 yrs na and super tibay and tipid talaga. madali lang maintenace. mine is a 4x2 200 model and it is the record holder sa isuzu challenge e-drive at 48+kms/l. pero on daily drives, i get around 14 to 15 kms/l city driving and around 17kms/l hiway driving. i rarely use my gas powered car lately dahil sa mahal ng gas. minsan nga motorbike na lang ako. hehe. downsides to a pick up is maingay ang matagtag ang ride. I myself have to replace my rear shocks in the near future. parang wala ng dampers, sonrang talbog na. kaya lang wala pako pambili ng shocks. do you really need 4x4? kasi if you won't go off road, it will only worsen your fuel consumption.
Hi toyboxph! Thanks for your comments. Wow, you must really be a good driver in-tune with your engine for you to be able to cough-up 48+km/l. Yung tatay kasi niya mahilig mag-hunting dati sa bundok at palaging sa out-of-the way places ang pinupuntahan using an assembled jeep 4x4. Sana makahanap ng well maintained-low mileage Fuego 4x4....
sir try looking at our classified section here...meron pong binebenta na 4x4 fuego dun...pero 470k ata ang asking...check mo nalang kung avail pa at tawaran mo.
4x4ph.com -- try mo ren kase may but and sell section sila dun.
*toyboxph -- wow! ang tipid naman ng pickup mo...laki nga talaga ng aksaya kung 4x4..mine only does 8.5-9km/l sa pure city driving...10km/l kung mixed and most efficient ko is 14km/l recently when i brought it to bataan. but i must say...nakakatakot na lumagpas pa ng 100km/hr kase ang ingay. hhaahaha! nonetheless, ok naman at a cruising speed of 90km/hr going touching 100 from time to time.
sir beetOls yung 4x4 at our classified ads tinawagan ko sold na daw. try ko rin yung sa 4x4ph.com, may 2000 Fuego 4x4 500K, hindi ko pa nakontak yung seller. medyo over the budget but i'll try to call him again later, baka sakali... may maganda palang frontier 2000 4x4 sa classified ads natin, 430K nalang from dati 500K. bakit kaya hindi nabenta kaagad at ang laki ng binagsak ng presyo. may nag PM naman sa kanyang interested buyers... na tempted tuloy akong tawagan yung seller, pero huwag nalang... sa Isuzu fuego pa rin ako...
Mga sirs, yung brod ko nakakita ng Fuego '98 4x4, pinuntahan niya kanina, 450K yung asking, tinawaran but hanggang sa 425K lang yung bigay ng owner kasi new tires at tig 5K daw yung isa. 1st owned siya, 83T km sa odo, maganda makina, walang kalampag, okay naman daw at malinis stock interior, konting gasgas sa exterior, orig paint, new 16" tires and very nice rims daw, walang campershell. May kasama siyang mekaniko to check the Fuego, so i think the assessment is reliable. I have until Friday to decide if kukunin ba o hindi. However, yung brod-in-law ko naman also has another prospect, Fuego 2001 4x4 450K, very good condition din daw (according to his contact), w/ infinity sound set-up (mahal daw ito?) at new tires din, walang campershell. Bukas pa nila tingnan yung pick-up kasama yung mekaniko nila at sa Friday, titingnan din nila yung Fuego '98 para may second opinion at ma-compare dun sa 2001... at hopefully maka recommend sila kung alin yung better choice by Friday. Sa tingin nyo fair price na ba ang 425K given the above description and considering the '98 model year? Medyo namahalan kasi yung brod-in-law ko, kasi last week daw may nabenta '98 Fuego 4x4 w/ tv/dvd, campershell at good condition din 370K lang, sayang hindi namin naabutan. Okay din ba yung price ng 2001 model given the condition and accessories described above? Thanks a lot for your inputs...
Hi Habagat! See? classified ads in tsikot helps a lot! hehe
My suggestion would be test drive the newer model Fuego first before the older ones since the 2000 version engine is upgraded (can anyone verify this?). Just to let you know, people who can afford (new at the time) 4x4 are mostly those may kaya and they take good care of their units. You're lucky, i guess. The thing is if the one you're buying from is an off-roader, baka laspag na suspension nya hehehe.
yup...only way to find out is to test drive...don't be deceived by the in-car electronics...focus on the engine, ride, suspension (kalampag). 88k kms is quite lower than the usual everyday driven pickup IMO.
