Ganda talaga and relatively quiet din, my neighbor's Alterra... That black gummed smile in the rear offers better protection for the painted bumper, when loading stuff. That's one of the things that the Toyota Fortuner doesn't have.

We compared notes. He's happy with his unit. He really wanted a 4x4. But, he settled for the 4x2 Alterra, not only because of the long wait for the Toyota Fortuner, but also because he's already got a 4x4 Nissan Patrol Safari.

Hope you can convince your friendly neighbor to post his insights about his new ride para malaman din namin how it feels like to own and ride one.

I'm sorry... I don't think he'd care to post anything... He's an old lawyer. I think he isn't even internet savvy.

Nahihiya din ako interview sya. 'Coz it kinda feels like I'm rubbing it in that I got the unit that he initially wanted. I have great respect for him and I wouldn't like to give him that feeling.

It's been nearly a month since the launch of the Alterra... Until now, there hasn't been a single owner posting here. Owners, don't get scared-off by the negative comments. It's your turn to tell us the merits of your new Alterra!

Anyways, I was driving home from Alabang today and I saw this gray Alterra negotiating the SLEX traffic next to me. The gray color makes the unit look very nice, especially when on the move. IMO, the dealership displays don't give the Alterra justice. It didn't look half as bad as it seemed when static on the display floor.

Maganda naman pala. Expensive lang s'ya talaga for a 4x2...

nakabili po ako ng isizu alterra 2007 model last august 25, 2013... dinala po dito sa house namin yung unit, nagbayadan po kami... after 2 days dinala ko po sa casa for check-up, change oil, etc .... pinabalik po ako d following day dahil daw po machine shop daw yung pully, yung umiikot sa harap. Binalik ko po after a day... Masaya na po ako at mailalayo ko na sasakyan ko... D following da papunta na kami sa baguio with my family and driver.. Napaka ayos pong tumakbo, nung nasa umingan na kami, sabi ko sa driver ko bakit parang nagiba takbo at ano yung tumutunog sa may engine... so we stop to check, tumawag ako ngayon sa mikaniko ng casa, ang sabi, sir pahatak nyo nalang po.... pinahatak ko hanggang casa, gabi na kami dumating dun.. pumunta ako kinabukasan, chineck nila, hindi pa daw malaman ang sira, d following day nanaman, di pa din malaman sira, after a while starter daw, change kako, nasira yung starte kaka start nila. following day nanaman, di pa daw malaman so umuwi muna ako, nung sumunod na araw tumawag sa akin service manager, for overhaul daw ang engine magprepare daw ako ng 100k, sabi ko kung magbibigay ba ako 100k k maaayos na alterra ko, wala daw garantiya 100k to 200k daw handa ko... pambihira naman kako yun, kaya nga dinala ko sa casa ng isuzu para maalagaan sasakyan ko tapos ganyan ang sasabihin nyo, nung dinala ko sa inyo yan napakaayos, pinag-out nyo ako na ok n po sasakyan nyo, tapos nung nasira hindi daw nila kasalanan yun...

What do you mean machine shop yung pulley?

Go to another casa. At least get a second or even a third opinion.
Kukuwartahan ka lang niyang current casa mo.
Their workers are just a bunch of Stupid Unskilled Professional Leeches.

BTW, Check the vehicle's history... Best starting point.

malaking kalokohan, kabobohan at katangahan yan..

I drive one. Okay not the exact same one but pretty close. I have an Isuzu Adventure Master Elegance here in Bangkok as my company car. It shares the same chassis, engine (3.0l TDIC, 146bhp), and interior (save for the 3rd row seats – my rig’s 3rd row seats are way better) as that of the MU-7/Alterra.

Key difference would include the ff.
    1. The spare tire on my rig is at the back (tail gate) of the vehicle and not under as that of the MU-7/Alterra. This is where the leg space of the 3rd row seats on my rig comes from.
    2. The IAME (I abbreviated the name. Haba eh!) have “real” 3rd row seats. The 3rd row seats on the MU-7/Alterra are a joke. Quite similar in appearance to the 3rd row seats of the CRV when it was taking advantage of a tax loophole.
    3. Rear quarter body/glass design

Believe it or not, I chose this over the Fortuner. Why? Simply because I needed a 4x4 vehicle which can comfortably fit myself, wife, 3 kids, and 2 nannies. The IAME fits the bill perfectly.

No doubt on my mind that the Fortuner has a better, more powerful (163 bhp), and a lot quieter engine. Body design is as well a lot better for me personally. The only downside is the rig is a bit too narrow for my needs. The 3rd row jump seats leave much to be desired as well – although better than the 3rd row seats of the MU-7/Alterra if you ask me. I think the Fortuner can only fit 6 pax comfortably.

I’ve had this rig here a little over 5 months now. Quite happy with the engine – pulling power is great. It can cruise comfortably along Thailand’s long and wide highways at 140kph for hours on end without a sweat. Top speed I’ve reached so far is 160kph (slight downhill). Fuel consumption is very good. I average 10-12km/liter in downtown Bangkok where traffic can get very heavy.

The only thing I don’t like with the engine is the noise. Oh boy if you get an Isuzu for the first time the engine noise will take a lot of getting used to.

Ride comfort – hmmm I’d give it 8 out of 10. For perspective I’d give my Gen 2.5 Paj over there in Manila 7 out of 10. I think Isuzu Thailand made the rear leafs a bit soft for better ride comfort. I brought the rig to Chiang Mai a couple of months ago. It’s an 800km trip from Bangkok which we took in only 7 hours (with two stops – one for lunch and another one for gas). My kids did not complain of feeling sore or a bumpy ride so I guess it makes the grade.

Interior – dual A/C, all leather, VCD/DVD player and monitor. No issues here on my end.
