    to all SUV lords:

need your advise: is there a for cure for trooper body roll & brake dive. what i know is OME (old man emu) nitrogen shocks will do the work. but i don't know the model & it will set you back at least 5k each plus maybe 1k for installation. there might be better more affordable alternatives. OME is made in australia a 4x4 country. but australia is not known for affordable products due to lower production quantities. there must be bilstiens or monroes that are exactly like OMEs but cheaper (for all we know maybe these two bands are the OEM for OME! ).

    thank you in advance...

    cj,

Try using KYB Gas-A-Just (spelling?) nitrogen shocks (silver shaft). I'm using KYB Premium nitrogen shocks on my ride now. Premium ang pinakamalambot na gas shock nila. Excel-G yung midlevel along with another shock and yung Gas-A-Just ang stiffest.

I paid around Php 850/shock for mine. Expect to pay a bit more para sa stiffer models.

You could also try Rancho Shocks... It'll go for roughly 3-4K a pop in think.

Other options you could look at:
    - stiffer aftermarket springs
    - rear anti-sway bar
    - wider tires

I second Otep's recommendation. Gas-A-Just (silver color) is the stiffest among the KYB line.

You can also try Monroe shocks (recommended to me by sir Kits (freeman)).

Instead of going for OME's, i suggest you grab a set of Bilsteins, which are only a bit more expensive.

pag sinabing stiffer models, ibig sabihin ba nito mas magiging soft ang 'ride' or mas magiging matagtag ang 'ride'.

vinj, Ranchos are soft! Theyre made for articulation :D

20vanda01, Stiffer shocks will make the ride firmer.

Otep, got my Gas-A-Justs for Php 850 also :D

    20vanda01,
They are harder (most aftermarket shocks have stiffer valving than OEM). But the ride will be better because there will be less wheel bounce and other unecessary movements (wallowing, etc.).

looks like the topic is hot. dami agad sagot. peeps, thank you!

    Otep / PajeroKid,

hindi kaya baka maging matagtag. the trooper's ride is carlike. no need to stiffen the shocks sana as it's a 4X2 & its not being used off-road. sana lang ma-control yung body roll for highway driving maneuvers & sharp turns.

    Vinj,

ano yung rear anti-sway bars? how does it work and where can you get it? (pati na rin pala cost)

    thanks again!

vinj, Ive tried pushing on an RS5000, softie talaga being an oil shock. Havent tried pushing on an RS9000 set at the stiffest, but im pretty sure it'll still be softer compared to low pressure Gas shocks. :D I got my gas-a-just shocks from motorix in banawe for Php800 (i recall the guy giving me a discount) :D If you factor in the price, its an excellent bargain

cj, the ride will bit a wee bit harsher. But that is the typical tradeoff in ride vs. handling. :D BTW, yung sway bars are also known as stabilizer bars. I think meron ang trooper niyan for the rear.

marwen, definitely sir mawawala na yung adjustment Kainggit nga yung sa inyo, meron nyan e. Stick na lang kayo diyan, sayang eh. Pwede rin swap tayo hehehe :D :D :D

    cj,

Hindi ba standard ang rear anti roll bar sa mga Troopers?

OTEP: Walang rear anti-roll bar and trooper. Thats why Calmini offers an aftermarket optional say bar for the rear

one way to eliminate sway is to change the bushings in the sway bars to poly urethane.

original trooper shocks are tokico gas shocks. and they are very stiff, stiffer than OME. but OME has different valve settings that it will harden up during braking and cornering. which cheaper shocks does not have, they only have the same damping properties all throughout. this is the advantage of the high end shock absorbers.

try to unistall the front shocks and you will have a hard time returning it due to its stiffness.

    cj,

Go for RS9000x, then get its in-cab controller. Another brand na may multi setting is Pro-comp, kaya lang, gagapang ka pa rin sa ilalim para baguhin yong setting from soft to firm.

Right now, naka RS900x ako sa front at setting no. 3

    arb,

Yong trooper namin (nov 2000), ay kabilang sa first batch, firm talaga ang oem shock, kaya laking taka ko ng i-describe ng karamihan dito sa board na car-like ang ride. Seguro, napalitan na for Manila road condition :D

I got my Trooper last year and I too was not happy with the sway. Also, since I load up the car with lots of passengers and cargo every weekend (but I don't off-road), I also felt I had to replace the stock rear coils which tend to bottom-out easily.

I ended up replacing the 4 shocks and 2 coils with the recommended OME replacements. Not cheap!

The car definitely handles the heavier loads much better and the ride is still very good even when the car is not loaded down. The sway has reduced somewhat but with the car now sitting 1.5in. higher than stock (the OEM coils are taller), any little sway is exagerated by the taller height.

I'm interested in the suggestion to replace the sway bar bushings with polyurethane (?) ones. What kind of improvement can I expect with that modification and where can I have a look at those bushings?

    Thanks.

Gripe: Did you crank your front torsion bars to compensate for the height increase of your rear suspension?
