good day gentlemen. i tried searching for answers to my queries but couldnt find one. if this has been asked and answered before, pls point me to the right direction. thanks.

i am in the market for a used isuzu trooper for me to bring my family to the farm on weekends. during weekdays, the trooper will be used to shuttle my kids to and from school. average distance traveled on a weekday is around 50kms and around 120kms on weekends.

i am aware of the problems of the 4jx1 series so i will stay away from it. i am hesitant to use ex jdm units (surplus/converted). i know there were a few 4jg2 series during the late 90s but these have manual trannies. since my wife will be the one to use it on weekdays, she would prefer the auto tranny.

i have my sights on the locally released gas versions. i dont have the engine code but i believe these are the 3.0L v6 engines. here are my questions:

    1) any estimated fuel consumption for these engines?

    2) do the engine and tranny have an ecu? or oldschool type ito?

    3) if i want to transplant a diesel engine, what are my choices? can someone suggest engines, hp rating, estimated fuel consumption and estimated price in the market?

    4) do i need to change the transmission as well? i want to retain the auto tranny of the gas engine that come with the unit (to lessen cost/expenses). can i use it?

    5) would this project be worth it?

i want it reliable and hindi gas guzzler sana.

    thanks for looking.

kung yung 3.0 liter na v6 (like the US trooper), sobrang lakas sa gasolina niyan.

A friend of mine drives a gas trooper, swerte na raw pag lumampas ng 7 km/liter pag city

    bisoy,

last year, i got my hands on a 1996 isuzu trooper with a 4 cylinder gas engine. medyo mahina ang makina na ito for the heavy bodied trooper....kaya malakas ang konsumo nito. like you, i asked around in this forum about the possibilitiy of an engine change. several users here said that an engine change is possible but it would be a very difficult and expensive endeavor. Majority suggested that I sell my trooper and get another SUV. kaya here i am....selling my 1996 trooper with a 2.0L 4-cylinder gas engine.

In case you can find a surplus alterra engine, baka sapol. Never heard someone do it but if i had money i would like to try.

Another project I want to do is to buy a 99 V6 trooper and run it on LPG. These units are a bargain compared to diesel versions but the engine is matibay and powerful. The money saved from purchase can be used for converting it to LPG. It might make sense because 6 cylinders naman at V configuration pa, if you loose a little power because fuel it might still be powerful enough. I havent factored in the weight of the tanks and kit. Meron na ba gumawa nito?

Bro you wont save gas and money on LPG's .. psychological lang yung makakatipid ka .. maraming taxi driver na died on complication dahil sa LPG pero hindi ito nareports due to cover-ups dahil nga diba government ang no.1 endorser nito? IMO
