2012 Grand Starex Gold crdi AT - lossing power (Help Please)

Hi Tsikoters,

Good day to all. My dad has a 2 year old starex gold crdi AT. It's current ODO reading is 18,000 km.

Problem: Every now and then, it losses power when running, even travelling at high speed, low speed, going up, going down, or flat roads. The engine will still run, but when you press the pedal, no power at all. The fuel filters has been replaced 2X and other filters, but still the problem is still there. What my Dad does is turn off the engine and restart again. After restarting, it will be back to normal. I used the car for 3 days when I was in the province last week, the problem happened to me 5X. Medyo nakakatakot pag nag overtake ako.

Hope you can give us any idea, what to check or replace, before going to the CASA.

limp mode. dala mo na lang sa casa mahirap magkalikot sa makina since under warranty pa baka mawala warranty nyo.

Hmmm... May DPF na nga ba ang mga local na GS? Not quite sure. The earlier ones did not. Mine's a 2011 unit and as of then wala pa.

Yebo is right, try consulting the casa and have them diagnose the problem. At least there's a start. Wala bang mga error codes? If you know someone with a scanner, try having them look into this. CVT had a problem with limp mode kicking in, but that was once and it was on a TCi unit.

mine is local 2011, walang dpf. ewan ko lang sa local 2012 kung may dpf na.

pero walang kinalaman ang limp mode sa dpf afaik. need nga nya mag-high rev para mag-regenerate ang dpf e bakit mag-limp mode.

yun din nga ang naisip ko, as per your inputs from your Sorento experience, IIRC.

Fuel filter ang naging problem ng Gen 3 CRDi nung friend ko. Nagli-limp mode at 3,000t rpms. Di kaya fuel pump na? Air filter replaced too?

baka kailangan na ng egr cleaning. usually pag loss of power and mausok na, clog na ang egr.

Wala naman check engine or ibang warning lights ang umilaw during the time na na experience yung problem. Pinagmamasdan ko nga yung display habang may power loss, normal naman lahat. hayyyyy

Sa GS ko usually palit lang ng fuel filter ok na. Sa Hilux ko pinababa ko yung fuel tank at nakita ang dumi ng strainer sa loob.

Kasi when I was driving , I think that was near Pangasinan-La Union boundary, medyo umaga na un, meron ang bilis na vehicle that I kept on seeing in my side mirror na laging nang oovertake and laging near miss siya sa oncoming vehicles. When that vehicle got behind me, doon ko nakita sa GS siya. He passed me, I saw a VGT emblem and the color of the vehicle was black. Then he overtook a few more vehicles.

After a few kilometers nung naunahan ko na ung mababagal sa harap, nakahabol din ako sa kanya. Mamaya biglang bumagal siya ng pagka bagal bagal na halos 40 kph nalang ata. Akala ko may kasunod but when I looked, clear naman. Hindi ko maunahan kasi andaming oncoming vehicles. Mamaya nag hahazard na. Parang sa tingin ko hindi na makatakbo. Hanggang sa na unahan ko na and when I looked at my rear view mirror, lahat kami na inunahan niya, inunahan din siya. I kept on glancing on my rear view mirror, naka hazard padin kaso palayo na ako ng palayo until I couldn't see that van anymore.

Hindi kaya nag low power din un? Parang ang weird kasi na after mong unahan ung long queue of vehicles, nung nasa harap ka na, nasa 40 kph nalang ang balak mong takbo.

Sounds like the same thing that happened to CVT.

* rna800, hindi po sir ako yun. Nasa Legaspi City po yung GS ng tatay ko. I was able to use it last week when I went to the province. Medyo malayo ang accredited service center ng hyundai sa legaspi. Nasa Naga City pa, its almost 90+ kms..

Just got word from my sister na naayos na daw ng taga hyundai yung GS. Di na raw umaandar a few days ago yung GS, so pinuntahan na sa bahay ng taga hyundai. I'm still getting the specifics kung ano ginawa and update ko tong thread. Hopefully, na solve na. Minsan lang kasi gamitin yung GS. I'l advise my dad or my sis to use it muna everyday para malaman kung na solve na talaga.

Just confirmed it sa tatay ko, pinalitan daw ng fuel filter and nilinis yung EGR.... so far, ok pa daw since, for observation muna.

Just got word from my sister na naayos na daw ng taga hyundai yung GS. Di na raw umaandar a few days ago yung GS, so pinuntahan na sa bahay ng taga hyundai. I'm still getting the specifics kung ano ginawa and update ko tong thread. Hopefully, na solve na. Minsan lang kasi gamitin yung GS. Ganyan din nangyari sa GS ko. Di po pa nadala sa casa kasi umayos naman. Problema natin ngayon sarado na hyundai naga. San pablo na pinakamalapit.

Main culprit talaga madalas sa mga Hyundai especially sa Grand Starex sa low power ay yung fuel filter pati EGR. I dont know sa EURO V engine. Mukhang di na kailangan linisin ang EGR since tagong tago eto.

Hmmmm, have to check the replacement frequency of the fuel filter.... Our ride is being serviced out of the casa since the last pms
