HARI sales take a hit due to the Getz's retirement

Who knew the departure of a teensy five-door hatchback could move the sales figures of a company as big as Hyundai? The eight year old sub-five hundred thousand Peso subcompact was a favorite amongst fleet accounts and budget-stricken individuals. But as the Getz finally reached its end of production life, the empty space it left behind dragged Hyundai Asia Resources Inc.'s (HARI) August 2011 sales down by 26% from the same month last year.

HARI sold a total of 13,271 vehicles from January to August 2011 - a 4% dip from the same period in 2010. Despite this downturn, the combined strong performance from the new Elantra, Sonata, and Genesis coupe helped meet sales expectations and managed a 4% growth in Passenger Car (PC) category....

IMHO the getz looks way much better than its replacement the i10.

    too bad it was retired

glad that we have a manual getz and i enjoy using it around the makati CBD while the driver uses it for errands like groceries, banks, etc

    very zippy and economical

Kahit sabihin nila ang kapalit ng Getz ay ang i10, this is not true. The Getz is more big than the i10. Dapat ang i20, not it's little brother

Although the GETZ was already old, it did serve a good purpose as a very affordable small car with good build quality, relatively spacious passenger cabin, good looks, modern efi engine and good fuel economy.

That's the problem. The Getz gives you subcompact sized interiors for supermini prices. The only other cars that do that for that price are Chinese, and not quite as appealing or high-quality as the Getz.

Sad day. The Getz wasn't perfect, but it was an amazing amount of car for the money, and fuel economy with the 1.1 MT was actually decent enough, despite the gearing being too long.

Hopefully Hyundai will consider creating an ASEAN production line to produce previous generation Getz and/or Accent units for taxi use in this part of Asia? Much like Nissan and Toyota did with the Corolla E110 and the Sentra B13 taxi variants that were sold years after the regular cars went out of production.

Hell, Nissan still sells B13s in Mexico.

Hyundai can fix that gap in their line-up by lowering the list price of the taxi-fleet Accents to 550k. That's only a small step up from where the Getz used to be. Once Accent sales pick-up, they should make up that gap easily.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Yun nga lang... worldwide supply of Accents is a problem... Even in the US, it's hindering sales.

When that stabilizes, perhaps the dip will be covered.

So what did the consumers bought instead? a Vios?
Pero come to of it mas maganda na tong problem of supply issue than having no sales due to no customers.

    ipasok na ang i20 dito.

kaya nga lang may kamahalan, but it would definitely shake the HB market.

    Mahal daw yung i20 eh.

Pero maari na mas mura yun sa Accent hatch.
