hello fellow tsikoteers,

im a newbie when it comes to changing rims and tires so i need all the help you can throw at me. i want to change my stock rims to yun Rota Illusion sana na either 15 or 16. hindi ko nga lang alam or sigurado yun pros and cons of either one. anyway here goes my points to clarify:

does changing to bigger wheels affect fc greatly?
how does it affect the ride of the car?
what size and tire combination is as close as the stock set-up?
will it affect the longevity of the underchassis components?

so far eto pa lang naiisip ko itanong but if you have more info regarding this please do share them with me. thank you and more power.

FC: as far as my experience is concerned, FC worsened when I upgraded to 15s (from OEM 13s)
ride: since I didn't wan't to deviate too much from the OEM OD of the wheel/tire combo, I had no choice but to use a 50 series tire, which made the ride harder.
wheel/tire combo size:
for 15s - kailangan mo ng 4x100 ET40 na rim. ang pinakamalapit sa OE na OD e combo ng 195x50r15 na goma at 15 na rim.
for 16s - try to compute for your OEM OD then check out available tire sizes for the 16s you want and just do T&E and see which tire and wheel combo comes closes to your original OD. Aim for about +/-3% error.
suspension longevity: to be honest... dunno. you might want to use the search function of the thread as people who are more in the authority to answer this question may have answered it already before.

i guesstimate that it'll knock off at least 1km/Li if you +1 upsize. Really depends on the weight of the new wheels.

They say it should handle a bit better when cornering/changing lanes. A bit. Suffer the extra harshness on straights with no benefits. braking/accelerating should turn for the worse to because of the extra rotational inertia.

There is such a thing called "plus sizing" +10 on the width, -10 on the aspect ratio, +1 on the wheel diameter. i.e. 185/65/r14 becomes 195/55/r15. if you input that in a tire calculator (http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp) you'll see the diameter difference is just .09%! wayyy within the allowable 3% max diff.

here's a food for your thought: http://www.mazda6tech.com/index.php?...d=44&Itemid=52

lots of penalty to pay for huh?...if you do still want to upsize, up 15" lang for subcompacts. Lots of nice tires become available in that size.

Agree... especially on the "atleast" part as I upgraded to a wheel combo that was 7kg heavier than my stock 13s.

Yup. I forgot that... to the TS, I suggested 195/50r15s 'coz this was what was the closest to my stock 150/85r13 stock -- a .4% error. So, let me just reiterate that you base your new desired OD to YOUR stock OD. apologies.
