Both of these had less than stellar reps a long time ago, though Hyundai had a slight edge I believe. Nauna mag-improve ang Hyundai hanggang nabili na niya ang Kia. Ngayon ba pareho na sila ng reliability at build quality o lamang pa din ang Hyundai?

I think pareho lang, though Hyundai is upscale of the two, para bang it will compete against the luxury brands while Kia will go against mainstream brands.

Hard to tell. I haven't yet seen Hyundai put its more powerful V6's on Kia cars.
The exception of course is the Sedona minivan. I think it has the same 250hp V6 as the Hyundai Entourage. Since we need a new minivan, the Kia Sedona is our top choice with the Hyundai Entourage next.

There are still differences in dealership and service center structure to consider.

They are following the same standards at their plants in South Korea. Hyundai positions their cars a bit upmarket and makes the Kias a bit sportier (relative to their segments) in order to give some identity to the products.

Locally, they are sold by different entities (HARI and Columbian) so the quality of sales and aftersales may not be similar. Both have extensive third-party (non-casa) parts and services available.

    How's columbian's service relative to HARI's?

Hyundai by far. there were a few years where they were just finding their way and learning to build decently reliable cars that people will want to buy, at a really good value for money.

fast forward to today, Hyundai has moved upmarket, but them and Kia still offer really inexpensive cars. the big difference is, IMO, Hyundai is selling some attractive cars (e.. the Santa Fe, Tiburon), while Kia is still stuck in neutral

Hmm. Sa posts, karamihan pareho lang pero sa votes lamang ang hyundai. Could this be the reliability issues of Kia BEFORE the buyout -- what year ba yun?

I think Hyundai parin. I think Hyundai is the parent company and is the #1 car company in Korea. Kia is more of low end IMO. I dunno kung comparable pero here goes.... If Toyota is Hyundai, Kia is Scion....

Kia's Carens, Carnival and Sportage are great offerings, too. So, I guess they're about the same.

However, I see more service centers for Hyundai. Although I understand for example that Hyundai Alabang will/can service Kia vehicles, too.

Honestly, I like the following vehicles from both manufacturers, based on looks, performance (from what I hear and read about) and overall appeal:

Hyundai - Getz, Tucson, Santa Fe and Vera Cruz

Kia - Rio, Carens, Sportage, and Carnival

Of course, I ended up choosing the CARENS, based on my budget and needs. What I love about Hyundai and Kia is the fact that they can produce quality CRDi vehicles with great amenities and features at very reasonable prices.

Pareho na ba Hyundai at Kia?
