Hi guys I was just wondering has anyone of you noticed that the recommended tire pressure for the new grand starex is 55psi cold? It is a hankook 16" tire. Should I follow this? I set it to 49psi but I will be going to baguio fully loaded and if 49 is underinflated then I will be risking tire problems.

    What do you think guys?

Ang taas ah! A little more and you'll have the same pressure in light trucks (63 psi).

But if that's what your Grand Starex's owner's manual recommends, then do follow it.

maybe I should follow it. I used to have an old 02 model but the recommended pressure is only 40psi. I was really surprised by the 55psi for the grand starex maybe its because the grand starex has a much bigger and longer body than the old one. Had a hard time cleaning it, its like cleaning a mini bus.

Call your Hyundai dealer and confirm it. What's the maximum pressures indicated on the tire sidewalls?

That is what is written on the tire side wall 55psi cold. I looked at it twice and thrice baka namalikmata lang ako. But its really 55psi. Dealer told me when it arrived its at 60 psi so they just lowered it to 45psi. So I am guessing 50 psi would be just right.

Remember, if the tires get hot they usually have +4 psi to the cold psi setting. So if it's at 50psi cold then after a long day driving it'd be around 54psi.

What size is the tire? Well, knock on wood but if anything goes wrong you know whose door to knock on

55psi max tyre pressure is at max load. What is the load index of the tyres?

I suggest that you call up HARI to check out the recommended tyre pressure.

215/70R16C but the manual says 42psi in front and 51psi at the rear
but the tirewall says 55psi cold. Now I am confused. I think it has something to do with the C at the end of the tire size. Iwonder what it means.

The tirewall's 55psi indicates the maximum pressure it can sustain! Tirewalls always indicate the maximum pressures so you won't overinflate it, which I think is almost what you're doing.

Follow the manual! I'm surprised the dealer doesn't know any better! The manual sounds right, usually the driving wheels would have higher psi, as what you just said (42/51psi F/R)

Have a good read here http://www.carbibles.com/tyre_bible.html

I guess 55psi is for maximum pressure for maximum load. Maybe the manual is for the normal load that is 42/51psi F/R. Since I will be heavy going up to baguio I will just set it between normal load pressure and the maximum load pressure. Thanks for all your inputs.

Look at the recommended tire pressure sticked on your front door posts and inflate your tires to that pressure.

as I've said, 55 psi is the maximum pressure you can load to he tires, but the recommended psi for Starex is just 40. 40 psi and up will be dangerous since heavy loads ang Starex natin and specially hot climate ngayon.

sir i think 55 psi is too much .. considering na mas prone na yan sa blow-out ..
para safe po inflate nyo nitrogen .. around 50-100 per tire ata .. tested napo namin ..

The dealers are not always consistent. I got my Grand Starex and found out that the tire pressure was less than 35psi!

Go for what it says in the manual and in the plate at the door of the driver's side. In my post in the other thread, 42psi for the front and 47psi (up to 3 pax) / 51psi (full load) for the rear seems ideal. 55psi is too firm and bouncy.

55psi tire pressure for 08 grand starex?
