1994 Honda Civic ESI with VTEC engine???

Hi all,

I am a newbie in buying a car. I currently have a prospect and it's a 1994 Honda Civic ESI with VTEC engine. The owner told me he bought it brand new 11 years ago and its engine is already VTEC. I thought VTEC was invented in 1996. Maybe I'm wrong. Or is he fooling me? Can anybody please clarify this for me?

you are right... 96 up nag start ang VTEC.

napalitan na yang engine nyan.

check the papers carefully kung sinabi nyang bnew nya nabili tapos VTEC na...

VTEC was already in use way before 1996 in japan. pero malamang, nag engine swap yung ESI na yan.

JDM EG civic have VTEC, baka galing japan yan?

first make sure na VTEC yung engine. It should have a VTEC solenoid at the left, back side of the valve cover. Kung meron then VTEC nga but nag swap na yan ng engine coz JDM lang lumabas nun na 1.5 or 1.6 na VTEC. check yung naka stamp sa engine, d15 or d16? pag D series then JDM (Japan Domestic Market). Pag PH then pwede VTi engine yan, i.e locally released na vtec engine, 1.6 liter.

Actually, VTEC was already used in the 94 Prelude. And yes, there are EG Civic sedans with VTEC but did not come out here. The US version had a similar engine to the EK VTi. If his car is imported, then the engine could be originally VTEC. Otherwise, it was an engine swap.

The VTeC system was originally introduced as a DOHC system in the 1989 honda integra sold in JAPAN the US market saw the first VTEC system with the introduction of the 1991 acura NSX which used a DOHC VTEC V6. the local vtec came out in 1996 sa EK.. wlang vtec sa local ESi..

malamang engine swap yan. inuuto kalang nyan :D
