September 11th, 2009 10:47 AM #6The appropriate oil for your car would be based on the year model. Brand would only be secondary to right applications. Such as viscosity grade and API rating.
I can only surmise that if your engine is 1996 below and has logged in 80 to 100km, better that you use 20W50 or 15W50 mineral based and API rating not below SG. Alternatively, you can also use "Higher Mileage Oils" formulated for those older engines.
You can also use Synthetic 5W40 API SM, SL.
Otherwise if its one of those latest models and has very low mileage ran, use thinner viscosity oils such as SAE 10W30, 5W30, 5W20 with API SM, SL, either mineral based or synthetic.
This oils has demonstrated energy conserving factors (fuel economy), smoke emission compliant, long drain intervals and excellent wear protection for longer engine life.
As for the brands, there are many in the market but I am completely satisfied in using Valvoline or Citgo for all our vehicles (gas or dsl), both brands are authentic US made. Not anywhere else in Asia, not even in Singapore.
Hope it will help you.
