    Hi,

I intend to buy a used Honda City 2006. I just have a few questions and I am really new to cars. I am very anxious to get my first ever car. I don't want to get cheated for being a newbie. Please help guys.

    1. How could I detect if the car that I am about to buy is an Ondoy casualty?
    2. Is there a way to confirm to the insurance company if the car that I am about to buy is indeed not an Ondoy victim?
    3. If not in the insurance company, could I check it to the casa where the car is maintained?
    4. What is the market value of this car?
    5. If I am to buy to a dealer, could you guys suggest any trusted car dealer in Metro Manila?
    6. Is this car model any good? Better than vios or altis?

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,
    Alvin

    1. Check for the mouldings around the door from the inside, it's easy to dismantle it and look at the "singits", also if possible take off the carpets. The best would be to take off the dashboard although I doubt the seller would agree, from the inside look at the metal parts, if there are signs of rust then you got your answer.

    2. Yes, you could check from the insurance company, but those claims from road accidents only not unless it has an "Act of God" clause will you be able to get some answers.

    3. Yes you can although the problem is cars that are out of warranty seldom find their way back to the casa.

    4. Around 350k to 380k not so sure although the value might be a little lower than this figure.

5.No, and I won't, some car dealers tend to cheat their customers especially if they sense you are new to the market, although some are okay but I don't buy from them.

    6. City and Vios are in the same category, both are fuel efficient and sub compact. Altis is different.

I agree with with much of ans's post.

Plus, ingat ka rin sa CVT transmission. Masirain daw. Better look for a manual if you insist on buying a ~2006 era City.

in regards to binaha, sa tagal na ng ondoy, medyo mahihirapan na makita kung binaha. best is to open the glove compartment then look at under the dash. usually detailers do not open the dashboard.

yeah, ingat sa cvt, look at the how it drives, use the +- sa steering. the idle, shift the tranny lever from neutral to park to drive to reverse. dapat walang delay pag nasa drive and kaldag.

car dealer, meaning buy and sell? generally i dont trust buy and sell try to go for direct sellers. hindi naman lahat ng buy and sell lokoloko pero majority, mangiisa sila.

bring someone thats knowledgeable with cars when checking or a trusted mechanic.

Thank you sirs sa reply. I intend to buy a manual transmission kaya iwas na sa CVT. I will try to look for direct sellers pero natakot ako kasi nabasa ko yung nagpost dito na bumili ng honda jazz na na-cheat nung seller nya, sabi hindi na-ondoy but then nung tinanggal yung carpet ayun puro mud.

Sana hindi mangyari sakin yun. I will keep in mind your reminders.

If you guys could add up as to what to look out for (ondoy or not ondoy related), please feel free to post them.

Thank you very much, this is so much help.

    Lastly guys,
I am scanning the advertisement of users here for Honda City 2008, here and in sulit. Is it normal to have a 380k-410k? Or is it too cheap to be clean?
I am being paranoid because this is supposed to be my first car and I don't want to experience the hassle.

    Thanks in advance guys! :D

medyo mahirap to judge from pictures sir. if the price of the seller is acceptable, best is to go there and see the car. wag lang mabulag sa kinis ng oto, madali sa sweet sales talk, etc. hehe

Thanks! :D Ipopost ko dito kapag nakabili na ako. :D

Mas okay din kapag newer models, lalo kapag naka warranty pa. You never know ano yung bibigay sa kotseng 2nd hand (actually, kahit brand new nagkaka problems din naman).

Hindi pa afford mag brand new mga sir. First car ko pa lang din naman mabuti na siguro dito na muna magkamali kaysa sa brand new haha. Anyway let's see baka magkaextra pera pa by October.

Natatakot lang talaga ako sa mga Ondoy cars.

Tips on buying Honda City 2006 (Ondoy experts please help)
