being the bearer of bad news, if will soldier on giving you bad news. you cannot just top overhaul your engine. from how you described your engine, it is now full of gunk. you have to have your engine cleaned as well. i am not sure how that will be done, but expect a not so cheap expense on that.
while you are at it, also replace your water pump. it's an option you could think about.
now, considering that you have these things sorted out, you should not be using tap water for your cooling system. this will contribute in corroding your cooling system. use a proper coolant for a change, it will be more expensive, but it will save you more money by avoiding overheating, which causes the HG to get whacked off.
