Good day everyone! I have this dilemma right in front of me...I drive a 1996 Honda Civic Vtec, and the temperature gauge at times goes above 3/4. I had it checked up with a reliable mechanic, I had the water pump fixed 4 months ago, I just had the fan of the radiator changed, I had my radiator cleaned and sealed for leaks, changed the termo switch, thermostat, and temperature sender...but the temperature still goes up... and the mechanic noticed that the temp goes up above the 3/4s mark, the water is not boiling... and when we start the car cooled and without the radiator cap on, water spits out the radiator like a volcano... So the mechanic concluded that there is a problem with the cylinder head, He said either change the Cylinder head with the same PH16a (local) or D15b (japan) cylinder head...or...have the cylinder head be precisely trimmed at a machine shop. I canvassed the cylinder head and O could get the PH16a or D15b at P8k with a labor of P2,5k, plus gaskets and etc would reach about P11k (i could sell my old cylinder head or have it weighed at a junk shop and get P4k). I passed though a street in scout tobias quezon city and was able to meet some friendly people who specialized in upgrading and repairing Honda Civics, and they offered to help me get the cylinder head to a machine shop including labor at P5k. (but the mechanic said that having the cylinder head trimmed is not full proof and the problem comes back).
So, here's my dilemma... If i decide to buy a surplus cylinder head, would it be better be a PH16a or D15b? Or have it fixed with a reliable machine shop that they recommend? determining the quality and performance of both types of repairing methods...
Note that I'm in a tight budget, 'coz I have been restoring my mashed up car into a fair driving automobile that is suitable for safe daily driving, and spent a little more than I expected, meaning I have a tight budget, hehe. i hope any experienced members or fans can help me with this. Thank you!
