Hi guys! ask ko lang kasi may kakaibang tunog yung makina ng 99 honda civic vti ko. sabi ng mekaniko sa shell e rodriguez. kelangan daw i-valve adjustment yung makina ng civc.

A valve adjustment is where the valves are put back into spec, they have a certain amount of space from the rocker to the valve stem, to accommodate for heat expansion every so often that clearance needs to be readjusted, otherwise the rockers can get too close and start to "tap".

You've never specify what kind of "tunog" like tapping sound also known as "tik tik tik" or something, cause it is harder for us to give you the right info..... its clueless. Tunog could be anything, get a second or third opinion what could that be.

Tap are noise come from the valve like tik tik tik. The tapping is caused by the hydraulic lifters not pumping up for a few seconds because of lack of oil. When you first start the engine, the oil is cold and thicker, and takes a little longer to get pumped through the motor to the valve train, and also since it has been sitting the oil has drained back to the pan.

The cause can be a worn engine, simple valve adjustment, partially clogged oil passages, too thick of oil. If your not having any issues with burning off oil ( burning oil caused by worn piston ring), you can run a slightly lighter oil so that it is easier to pump through the motor. This will reduce clatter during startup. You could also add some SeaFoam to the crankcase oil ~1000mi if one available in your area (manila) before you next oil change. It will help loosen up deposits inside the crankcase, and the filter will catch the contaminates the reason I say do it before an oil change like a day or so. Do this every oil change till you think the engine is better than it was. Again, you may have to change also your oil into lower viscosity.

Try flush the engine with Engine Gunk remover or sea foam to loosen and remove some deposits in your engine this will help reduce tapping. Now there is a little problem when doing this, flushing the engine crankcase it will loosen all the sludge and drop it into the oil pan where it will then clog your oil pickup screen, causing you too loose oil pressure and seize the engine. Now dont be so depends how heavely gunked the engine was, you can tell by inspecting the oil after you drain the oil. If too many residue like small solid particle you must remove the oil pan and clean it including the pick up screen, if none you should be ok.

Sir pano ba malaman kung kaya pa ng engine ko mag seafoam w/out making it loose compression?
My engine is 1.6 DOHC 90,000km reading 1996 moodel.
