Hoping to have some advises from this forum. Well I'm planning to buy a honda civic, but some people advise me not to buy the 2004-2005 models because the power and it's engine is very hard to fix as well as it's spare parts when it had its minor issues, that's why some advised me to get 1999-2000 models aside from the parts are very easy to come by. According to others, it's stablity on the roads is much better than the later aforementioned models. It's easy to customize this models as well. Your thoughts mga sir. Really want to get the best one specially the models that can perform well in long distance travel since me & my wife love to travel a lot. Really not after for so much torque nor speed for vtec is already enough. Thanks.

i had previously owned a 2000 VTi. Power is sufficient, drivability is good.
Medyo tumataas na lang maintenance costs ko before kaya ko binenta.

imho, i don't think its on the model.. lahat naman ng models and makes ng car, may kanya kanyang strengths and weaknesses.. it would depend na lang on the condition of the car, availability of parts and reasonable cost of parts.

to each his own ika nga.

I guess it is best to go for the younger vehicle. An older vehicle will need a more thorough maintenance approach to keeping it in driveable condition. Both EK (96-00) and ES (01-05) have their own strengths and weaknesses but getting a used one means making sure that the one you get was properly cared for. It would be best to get a stock or non-modified used car.

How about the younger Civic FD (06-11) instead?

I agree. I think also younger car can be as efficient in long travels rather than older cars. Though both has been well taken cared off.

For around this budget, check out the late model Civic ES (04-05) and go for the VTI-S model if considering AT tranny. The VTi MT models will be cheaper. If you want a more powerful model, a 2.0L model (K20 DOHC VTEC) was released in 2004-2005 and they are now priced about the same as the lower trim 1.6L VTi-S models.

You can also get a much younger vehicle from another manufacturer for around the same budget, a Focus 2.0L or a Mazda3 2.0L or a Sentra 1.6L.

I agree. I guess I'll have to go for 04-05 model AT tranny. Para din naddrive ng asawa ko. But I'll try to peek at other brands also. The ones you mentioned. Kaya lang hindi mas mahal spare parts nila? Thanks again.

I currently own a 2004 Vti model and previously a 1997 civic. Go for the later model especially if automatic. I'm happy with the performance of my matic 2004 VTi and parts is not a problem. Go for the eagle eye model like mine.

^^^ Somebody posted a comparison before of the 2.0L versions of the Mazda3 and Civic of that era (2004-2005). The Mazda3 offers better handling and lower end torque but the Civic has more power at the top end (greater top speed). In terms of FC, the Mazda3 2.0L is about the same as its lower end 1.6L brother (6-8 km/L on city routes). In the case of the Civic, the 1.6L models offers a good mix of performance and FC for the 1.6L model. The 2.0L Civic ES has the K20 VTEC DOHC engine and it is not known to be fuel efficient and will be more like the Mazda3 2.0L model in terms of FC.
