Need help on what tires and size to choose
    205/70r15 --stock
pros: better mileage, more torque and less unsprung weight
    cons: Puny looking

    215/70r15
pros: higher ride height, more macho looking
cons: poor mileage and less torque

I tried these two sizes and thus far my pros and cons..Im currently on the 215/70r15 size and im contemplating on getting another tire brand because of the road noise on both stock and my currently upsized tire. What are the good tire brands and models today (less noise, more grip, low tread wear). The stock bridgestone duelers are crap and my current dunlop sp70e is almost in the same league as the duelers... Are A/T tires suited for my vehicle? Im torn between going back to stock size to regain lost torque and mileage and the looks of the bigger tire.Help

if u want tires dat would last a life tym, y dnt u try the the michellin vanpix tires.its an 8ply tire, wit lifetime warranty as long as there is still visible treads.. im not too sure of the sizes available, but i think there is a 215,65 r15. so dat should be almost the same as ur stock tires but wider.

try 216/65-15 as suggested by cocoy.

You should have gotten the Dunlop RV501 instead of sp70e. If you don't want road noise don't get all terrain tires

don't go for A/T if you are primarily driving in the city.

i've read of good reviews about the goodyear fortera... shame that they don't carry sizes for the gen2 rav4.

the dueler h/t (687 i think) that comes with the cr-v are the cheapest in the dueler line... the 697 (the ones in the rav4) are a bit better).

thanks guys for the replies, before getting the sp70e i was comparing it with the rv501 and based on the looks of both tires the rv501's tread design looks like its going to wear out sooner than the sp70e. I had the sp70 for more than a year now and about 5k kms on them...road noise was a little better than the stock dueler 584, but still its noisy and grip was almost none. I have an auto trans and i could easily spin the tires (paiyak) from a standstill, on dry tarmac at that!

btw, are yokohama geolandars any good?
    Cocoy,
Regarding the 215-65r15 size, I thinks this size is a bit too small because the stock size is already 26.3 inches diameter, and this is only 26 inches. The 215/70 is 26.9"

i tot the stock size tires was 205/70/15.i guess i cud be wrong, i just tot dat if u had 205/70/15 tires. then a 215/65/15 tire would hav the same height as the 205, but wider. oh well cud be wrong.i own starex, and i replaced my 205/70/15 tire to 215/70/15.and its bigger in diameter.there is very little difference between a 205/70/15 and a 215/65/15 tires in diameter. the width is the main difference.

bratski - negligible yung difference. If you go to hondasuv.com the reccomended tire upgrade using 15" wheels would either be 215/65-15 or 215/70-15

Geolandars? the A/T Geolandars are nice but you won;t be needing A/T tires as mentioned. THe Geolandar H/P that was once oem fitted to some Gen2s are locally made. tread pattern of the HP are simillar to the stock bridgestone 684

    Cocoy,
sorry for the misunderstanding..What I was comparing was the 215/65 versus my current 215/70. My old stock tires are 205/70. Overall diameter stock (205/70= 26.3"), 215/65=26", 215/70=26.9". I wouldnt want to stray too far down on overall diameter because my V is lifed by about an inch and the fender gaps would be much larger. But Ill try to look into the size category you recommended for comparisons. Thanks

    Suppierreman,
Are your Yokohama supper diggers a/t tire? looks good from your site, Whats the size? reviews maybe?

    braski,
yep the super diggersI had were A/T tires but in stock size 205/70-15. I should have gotten 215/70-15 because the stock size looks thin.

The supper digger tires were noisy when driven on tarmac. It emitted a whistling sound probably because of the tread pattern with wider "teeth" as compared to H/T tires. I didn't care much about road noise since I used my V sometimes for light off pavement duty. Grip wasn't much of a concern too since the 4wd system took care of that. The RTAWD coccasionally activates if ever the wheels slip

sir bratski, 205/70-15 (that's right, 205) dunlop le mans rv501 might solve your dillema. it's visibly wider and more macho-looking than 205/70-15 dueler h/t. i noticed this when we had 2 rv501's in front and 2 dueler 684's at the rear ('02 cr-v 10-seater). now we have 4 rv501's, and i'm satisfied with them.

sir mazdamazda, stock of early gen 2 cr-v's was the dueler 684, which is made in thailand, one of the worst tires available per my forum browsing. the rav4's is dueler 687 which has better tirerack ratings.

i'm not sure if you guys are aware that the tires by bridgestone which were originally installed in the CRVs were classified according to origin...

the original CRV with 10 seating capacity (sisikan) uses the thailand made while the 5 seating capacity uses the japan made... although the specs are completely similar, some tire dealers says that thailand made are more durable than those from japan (kaya they used it in the 10 seating capacity models)
and of course, thailand made is more expensive compared to it's japan counterpart.

    Supierreman,
thanks for the tip, I was thinking of buying a/t tires because of the grip but didnt foresee that its noisier compared to h/t tires.
    Oneway,
Before i installed my current sp70's I was comparing it side by side with the rv501..According to the dealer, the rv501 wears faster although its quieter..This was due to the fact that it has softer rubber compounds. How was your experience with the rv501?Do they really wear fast? my Crv is the 10 seater model and the ride was pretty harsh,so-so at full load. Are there tires that will improve the riding comfort or do i have to change into 4x4 springs? Thanks guys for all your inputs, I've been learning a lot

A/T tires have less grip on tarmac compared to H/T because the tread pattern has wider blocks on contact with the road. the wider blocks provide grip on off pavement (i.e. gravel paved roads, muddy roads).

oneway is right. the RV501 205/70 are wider than the regular 205/70 tires made by other brands. I'm not sure about the wear rating but a friend of mind had these on his CR-V. He took his cr-v to long trips (way up north or way down south to bicol) using those tires and he sold them when he got 17" wheels. When the tires were sold di pa naman gaano napudpod yung gulong.

Are you still using the 3rd row seat for passengers? if you don't use that seat often you can change your rear springs to 4x4 springs. Log in to HCP and ask the guys at the CR-V thread where they got their 4x4 springs. There's this store in makati who sells honda parts cheaper than what the casa is offering.

If you want a better ride changing tires won't do much. Even changing to A/T tires would make ride stiffer since A/T tires have a stiffer side wall

hi guys, i had the RV501, 215/70/15, it was installed on my starex.and yes it is a very quite tire, and i also think that it wears out faster than other tires because it seems softer.i guess its really up to you to chose what tire u like.when my current tires wears out, i plan on getting the the michellin vanpix tires.i guess i just really want to try out and see how long these tires will last.

we've been using RV501 tires for quite some time now. the first 215/70r15 set which was from 2002 was just replaced recently. sayang hindi napaayos yung toe in toe out nung sedona kung san nakakabit coz hindi pantay yung upod. otherwise the tires may have lasted till end of the year. as to the mileage, i think the van's got about close to 40k now. ride is great. dunno if it's because of the sedona's characteristics or if the tires contributed somehow coz we replaced the korean hankooks right out of the casa. considering that the CR-V is a lighter vehicle, you should be able to get more life out of these tires.

    supierreman,
Yes I had the third row seats removed..The area back there is so cramped even my 1 year old son wouldnt be comfortable sitting there.Dunno why honda resorted to such drastic measures as to circumvent the tax laws. Most hideous of all is the auv type front passenger seats.

If you got 40k on the rv501's that aint so bad at all, the stock bridgestones are already bald at 20k
