Hi! Just got apprehended recently for turning right in an intersection while on red signal. I was in Paseo de Roxas turning right to Ayala Ave. I was told by MAPSA that this is illegal even with no sign not to turn right on red signal. Is this correct? Thanks!

Yes. Why couldn't you have waited for the green light?

    Idiot.

If you dont know the laws, you really shouldn't be allowed to drive. Unless there is a sign or oncoming traffic/pedestrians, you are clear to turn right on red.

    Take it easy, bro.

Don't expect every driver to know every law on the rule book. Remember ... you don't have to get it all correctly on the driving test, in both theory and practical, in order to pass and get a license. So having a license means you have the minimum requirements of the law to be allowed to drive.

    Peace.

ang alam ko, unless may sign na no right turn on red signal, pwede ka magright turn anytime.

kaya lang monkey republic of makati ni binay yan...so they have their own rules...

I did not wait for the green light since I thought it was not illegal.

Yun din reasoning ko, since naglalagay sila sa intersection kung bawal, then pwede sa intersections with no signs. Like on the same intersection, kabilang side, paseo din pero coming from the other side , may stoplight na right arrow. Then bawal mag right unless mag green na yung right arrow.

basta red; ke red blinking light or steady red
light or red stop sign, "dapat mag STOP ka completely",
hinde rin pwede yung "rolling stop lang" then proceed
before making a right turn. siguro tuloy, tuloy kang
nag right turn siguro dahil akala mo pwede dahil walang
tuwing me red light or stop sign, completely stop
ako bago kumakanan or pakaliwa man kahit walang
    dumadaang sasakyan.

ganun nga sa makati. medyo nakakalito. there are intersections where there are signs that say "no right turn on red signal" and there are some that don't. of course, a driver's assumption is, which is the accepted norm, that if it's not explicitly stated, then it's legal. the default is "right turn anytime with care". anyway, ganyan talaga ang mapsa. pugad ng kurakot. lalo na pagweekends. especially when turning left from buendia to paseo. sasadyain nilang ma-beating the red light ka.

delarosa, yun nga nakakainis dun. and mahirap makipagtalo sa mapsa or any galamay ni binay.

Hi Fast Eddie, nag complete stop ako since may car sa harap ko na huminto, tapos tumabi for me to pass. Ang sabi kasi sa akin, no right turn on red signal all the time. Even if mag complete stop ka, then make a right turn, kung red pa rin, huli pa rin yun.

check out the intersection of ayala and makati ave (specially ung pakanan papuntang landmark). vehicles turn right even if may red signal all the time ... unless maisipan ng mapsa na hulihin ka. the red signal is for vehicles that are going straight thru the intersection to stop. those making a right turn may make a right turn with caution. now pag may sign na "no right turn on red signal", un obviously stop ka talaga nun.

no right turn on red signal... kapag may incoming traffic lang dun sa lane na un (coming from your left side... or the opposite lane turning left).

From the Land Transportation Office website.

    III. Traffic Signals
    RED SIGNAL

Unless a sign indicates otherwise, a right turn may be made on a red signal or from a one-way street to a one-way street provided the vehicle is first brought to a stop, and always subject to the right of way of pedestrians and other traffic.

puede mo silang balikan with the LTO rules with you. you should've argued your case. kung ayaw nila sa cityhall na kayo mag usap. Makati City should've have been rename to Republic of Makati because this city has its own rules and regulations.
