Walang problema yung Isuzu, ang problema ay yung diesel sa Pinas na low class ang quality.

Kaya meron ng biodiesel para sa ganitong problema.

its a hard fact that diesel quality sa pinas is "class C", but some diesel engine doesnt produce the same smoke as what's stated above...

pwede ring the driver is trying to drive hard and the car is cargo loaded, or pwede ring something is not properly maintained in his diesel engine...

I've seen even Hyundais belching black smoke. Black smoke is normal, even for modern diesels, if you push them hard. In other words, if you're using dirty diesel and revving them at full throttle to redline.

And the Crosswind is so slow, that that's how lots of people drive them... rev the nuts off to get what meager power is available out of the engine. Which is why you see a lot of black smoke from Crosswinds. Well, it's for that reason and the fact that it's still basically a Jurassic age 2.5 liter OHV engine with no variable valve timing, no variable turbo and no electronic engine control.

4JB1? 4JA1 pa rin yung Crosswind. Just with an added turbo. Would that it were a 4JB1, so it wouldn't be so notoriously slow.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I use biodiesel for the 4ja1 isuzu, and it still puffs out smoke, but not that dirty or dark. Still, This engine still puffs like a fumigation session, no matter how much tlc I put into it, compared to a 4d56 mitsu or a toyota 2.4 diesel engine.

flushing sa exhaust pipe once a month or pag tinatamad 2 months.

I am using bioactive (1 bot for every full tank) for my 2002 xwind A/T for the last 3 full tanks already. Instantly the smoke emission at idle speed was gone and the obvious thick smoke when accelerating was reduce significantly (hindi na na kakahiya na parang nag fogging versus dengue lamok)

i think the problem lies in the way people drive their cars... i mean the filipino way of changing gears adds up to the way the engine will perform. i mean some people think their engines will blow apart if your doing 60km/h at 3rd gear...i dnt know bout others but for me i drive my 2001 TCI starex 110km/h at forth gear, and it feels really good after doing that...by the way ive had my starex 4 years now and i still havnt touched the engine.. ... and at idle u dnt see any signs of smoke at all.. unlike brand new curent model crosswinds around..... just my thoughts,,,,,

i might not be driving a sportivo.but i noticed that..sometimes it depends on the diesel fuel you load. i gas up at the same gas station but sometimes iba ang performance ng car, eventhough same gas station, same gas pump, etc. so partly it is the diesels ffuel at fault..

next would be that isuzu is really a smoke belcher.

3rd...the SA also recommended in taking out the catalytic filter..kasi as per SA its one of the causes of smoke belching at abrupt speeds...(the particles gets stuck and accumulates in the filter if the auto is not driven fast for a given timeframe and when you step on the gas pedal...yun...it is forced out so comes out the black haze.)

yes...bioactiv does help as well as biofuels as mentioned here.

i guess the only way to know if we get better diesel fuels here.

The good thing about this smokey 4ja1 is when you are up against a reckless tricycle or jeepney driver. Just drive ahead, slow down a bit to make sure he's directly behind you, give your accelerator a pump, and instant smoke screen and anti-dengue fumingation.

Wala bang performance air filters na pwedeng gamitin sa Crosswind, try removing the air filter and see if the smoke can be lessened.

It's not just the fuel, mind you... what I'm pointing out is how the vehicles are driven. Given, the 4JA1 is about as old as Solomon and has about the same sophistication as a jeepney, it will not smoke under normal loads. Hell, our pre-Euro II still passes emissions. If you pay attention to oil changes and drive gently, it won't smoke, but if you drive it like you stole it, you will belch.

Just like Hyundai turbodiesels I've seen. Just like more modern turbodiesels in Europe when you push the pedal to the metal, you will occassionally have a black puff coming out.

And even if our diesel is supposedly Euro II, we have a lot of gas stations with storage tanks of questionable integrity.

Hey, maybe those guys are filling in the jeepney lane at the local co-op?

Of course, though... that still doesn't change the fact that the 4JA1 is a horribly outdated plant... but as long as people keep buying it...

    ------

RE: solutions? When we used synthetic oil, it helped a lot. I think a combination of synthetic, carbon cleaning (both for combustion chambers and exhaust) and a filter swap should keep it clean for a while.
