Hi mga tsikoteers,

I have a question regarding 1 area here in Bonifacio Global City...

on 32nd street corner Rizal Drive, there is a traffic sign as "No Left Turn" from 32nd street going to Rizal Drive... (in front of Jollibee)

what I did was I made a U-Turn on 32nd street, going back to kalayaan (attached map screenshot).

I was flagged by a Bonifacio Global City Traffic Officer and said.. "Bawal ka mag U-Turn dyan..."

I in turn said that there was a "No U-Turn" sign.. and he said did you see the No Left Turn? kaya nga may No- Left Turn dyan eh.. bawal ka mag U-Turn...

HUH?!!?!??! so we came to an argument na iba ang U-Turn at Left-Turn...

after a while he said that may 'Yellow Box Paint' sa intersection.. kaya bawal mag U-Turn at mag Left Turn....

parang ginagawa nyang trap area yung 32nd street na yun eh. may hinuli din siyang isang truck that time.

IMO may point yung TE.

However, maybe you could make a u-turn if there's no boxed x-mark.

I maybe wrong. Let's wait for other's opinion.

As far as I know, pag meron No Left Turn, it concurrently means, No-U-Turn.

So pag may No left turn, automatic, alam ko na di rin pwede mag-U-Turn doon.

It's like if U-turn takes two steps, if they didn't allow you the first step (Left turn), how can they possibly allow second?

No Left Turn and No U-Turn are completely different, that is why there are some intersections I see that have both signs to emphasize that left-turning and U-turning are BOTH prohibited.

The yellow-box with and X in the intersection means Keep the Intersection Open and is aimed to prevent a gridlock when one road is stopped due to heavy traffic while the perpendicular rode is free. The yellow box with an X is also used to help guide right of way because cars just approaching the yellow box should yield to cars already in the box. It has nothing to do with no-left-turn and no-right-turn. That is why despite the yellow box, there still is an explicit no-left-turn sign.

shouldnt the traffic lights be in control of the intersection as to who can make the turns?

What the California Driver's Handbook Say...
http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/dl600.pdf
Legal U-Turns

Across a double yellow line when it is safe and legal.
In a residential district:
if no vehicle approaching you is closer than 200 feet.
whenever a traffic sign or signal protects you from approaching vehicles.
At an intersection on a green light or green arrow unless a "No U-turn" sign is posted.
On a divided highway only if an opening is provided in the center divider.

Illegal U-Turns

On a divided highway by crossing a dividing section, curb, strip of land, or two sets of double lines.
Where you cannot clearly see 200 feet in each direction because of a curve, hill, rain, fog, or other reason.
Where a "No U-Turn" sign is posted.
When other vehicles may hit you.
On a one-way street. Kung may No Left turn sa Harap mo it means ONE WAY YON at tatapak ka na sa jurisdiction nya.
In front of a fire station. Never use a fire station driveway to turn around.
In business districts. Areas with churches, apartments, multiple dwelling houses, clubs, and public buildings (except schools) are also considered to be business districts. Turn only at an intersection or where openings are provided for turns.

Funny our very own LTO teaches you HOW to make a U-Turn rather than tell you when or when not to make one.

From LTO Website:
U TURNS
U-turns are hazardous and are prohibited in some areas. When doing "U" turns, start turning from the extreme right side of the roadway. Check for traffic in both directions and make the proper turn signal. When the way is clear, turn the steering wheel sharply to the left while moving slowly forward. When the wheels are turned completely left, continue driving forward slowly until close to the left curb or edge or roadways.
After having turned the wheels completely on the right side, continue backing up slowly until close to the opposite curb. Repeat these maneuvers until turn is completed.

so if a u-turn consists of 2 left turns, that will mean x2 fine. hmmm ...

different or not, to me this is really just common sense. no left turn means that there's just no safe chance for a driver to turn his wheels left whether to make a u-turn or just go left to the perpendicular road.

so, kung di ka man mahuli for a "violation", you are a high risk of road accident. any which way, talo ka.

is a "No Left Turn" the same with "No U - Turn" ???
