Speaking of how common motorcycles are thes days as mentioned in the previous thread, here are just a few pictures of my motorcycle accident patients. Its so common that a day doesn't go by without us receiving at least 1-2 patients here at the ER.
Usual causes...
1. Intoxicated while driving a motorcycle
2. Motorcycle vs. car / truck
3. Out of control due to overspeeding
This patient was intoxicated while driving his motorbike late one night. Tried to overtake a car ahead of him and ended up getting sideswipped by an incoming jeep
INJURY: Open knee injury, L.
Knee: Fracture, open, complete, comminuted, proximal tibia, L.
Second patient was overspeeding in his motorcycle when he lost control, hitting a electric post
INJURY: Avulsed wound, R leg
Leg: Fracture, open type III, complete, comminuted, displaced, M3 tibia, L
Fracture, open type III, complete, comminuted, displaced M3 fibula, L
Third patient lost control while trying to negotiate a turn. Ended up falling on the ground, pinned underneath his motorbike. Oncoming car ran over his right lower extremity
INJURY: Traumatic amputation 1st and 2nd toe
Open Knee injury, L
Leg: Fracture, Open II, complete, oblique, displaced, M3 tibia L
