Ferrari driver and taxi passenger killed in three-vehicle crash

SINGAPORE - An accident involving a Ferrari, a taxi and a motorcycle has left two dead and three others injured.

The crash occurred in the wee hours of Saturday at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street.

Witnesses say that the Ferrari crashed into a taxi when it ran a red light, causing the taxi to hit a passing motorcycle. The impact was so hard that the taxi's engine was found 30m away from the vehicle, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The accident location is said to be a black spot with six accidents occurring over the past 12 days.

Police and SCDF received calls about the accident at about 4.15am.

Drivers of both vehicle were trapped and had to be extricated by SCDF personnel.

The Ferrari driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene by the paramedics. Shin Min Daily News reported that the driver was 31-year-old Chinese businessman Ma Chi.

The female passenger in the Ferrari, in her 20s, and the cabby, in his 40s, sustained head injuries.

The motorcyclist, in his 20s, sustained spinal injuries.

All three of them were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The taxi's passenger, a woman in her 20s, was found unconscious and died at the Singapore General Hospital, reported The Straits Times.

According to the English daily, Mr Ma first came to Singapore four years ago with his wife and child.

Friends said he was a hard-working and righteous person who worked as a financial investor. He was also applying for permanent residency in Singapore.

Mr Ma's family members were spotted at the mortuary on Saturday morning.

His mother needed relatives to support her into the morgue and was extremely distressed. She was seen falling down to the ground crying before she entered, reported Shin Min Daily News.

She kept calling out her son's name as well.

The police are investigating the accident and are appealing for eye-witnesses to call its hotline at Police 1800-5471818.

Proof... no matter how big the car, if whatever is hitting you is big enough or going fast enough... bam!

Always pay attention to the road. Even if you've got a green light, there's always some idiot who thinks he can get through first...

Yes, always look left and right and never go ahead if there's a large vehicle blocking your view. Same thing to what happened with that accident of Rene Saguisag and his wife before.

What a waste of life, especially to the cab passenger being at the wrong seat/place at the wrong time.

The armored car is one of those instances where the extra weight of the vehicle actually goes into the crash structure and not just the load-bearing ladder-frame (SUVs) or engine cradle. So you'd think it would be safe...

But there are no crash tests for armored cars. Most local armored cars are adapted from trucks, and the armor is slanted to deflect rounds up (easy way to deal with small arms fire and some rocket attacks... angle the plate to deflect the forces)... so this means that the distance between the driver/passenger head and the windows is less... and there are no airbags to protect their heads from the heavy steel plate...

Even worse for the guys in the back, who are merely sitting on benches.

Granted, the weight of the armored car will absorb a lot of impact, but if they were also hit by a Ferrari going that fast, at least one person in the armored car would be dead...

Lesson learned the hard way... hit by a jeep crossing the intersection waaaaay too late and waaaaaay too fast. And that was in my first year of driving.

A Chinese wealthy man who temporarily lived in Singapore. His wife was a famous Chinese TV hostess. The strange thing is that the girl on the Ferrari was not his wife, and the man's wife didn't know about the girl until the accident happened. Moreover, the female passenger on the Hyundai Sonata taxi is a Japanese girl.

    sayang ang buhay...

it just goes to show that not all PUV drivers are the idiots on the road, but then again, its Singapore, not PH.

May katagalan na rin naka green ang traffic light. G*go lang talaga yung Ferrari driver, pinilit pa. Naawa ako sa taxi driver and his passenger. Pero dito sa Ferrari driver hindi. Kaya Rest In Pieces na lang siya.

Its sad that the other cabbie just seemed to drive off after. Dito sa atin kahit may sakay ang taxi, hihinto ang kapwa taxi to render assistance in those kinds of situations.

I guess partly because in countries like SG, you will expect the emergency services to be there at the soonest time possible and i guess they're not used to seeing things like that over there. Dito kasi, we really have to go out and help since emergency services are not on hand immediately.

    Saan yung link ng chicks?

Wala man preno yung Ferrari. Looks like the driver did not intend to beat the readlight but was probably distracted by something else.
