CALL the police if you happen to come across vehicles being sold way below their market prices. Chances are these are stolen.
The Traffic Management Group yesterday offered this tip to the public amid reports that stolen vehicles with spurious Land Transportation Office documents are being sold in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

TMG director Chief Supt. Augusto P. Angcanan, Jr. said car buyers should be cautious of sellers offering to register the vehicle in behalf of the buyer; if he/she cannot present original copies of supporting documents like Certificate of Registration and Official Receipt and Deed of Sale; and if the sale is done through a third party rather than the owner whose name appears on the CR.

TMG Special Operations Group commander Supt. Eduardo A. Bayangos said the public can easily check with their office the records of any vehicle for sale.

"Please watch out for glib-tongued car thieves. Kung masyadong mababa yung price ng vehicle, siguro mag-doubt na kayo. And before buying it, have the status of the vehicle checked with our clearance section," he said.

Police also urged the public to immediately report the presence of suspected carjackers to the nearest police station or call DILG Patrol 117 or Text 2920 for quicker PNP assistance.

Meanwhile, Sen. Manuel Villar wants stiffer penalties for LTO personnel who would be found conniving with carjackers by registering stolen vehicles.

Villar said the LTO plays a crucial role in helping police reduce the rising car thefts in Metro Manila.

Villar filed Senate Bill 756 seeking to insert a new rule in Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code which states that "any officer or employee of the LTO responsible for the registration of a stolen vehicle shall be punished by a fine equivalent to the market value of the stolen car or imprisonment of at least one year, or both."

di ba parang mababang penalty ito, considering na parang carnapping na rin yung ginagawa ng mga hinayupak na LTO employees na yan?

di yata euro/american cars ang tinutukoy, sabi lang dun sa article "vehicles being sold way below their market prices".

dapat di lang 1 year, dapat minimum 6-12 years kasi conspiring with carjackers who may have killed somebody in stealing the vehicle. bait ni villar masyado.
