bakit, ginagamit ba habang walang emergency? kung may emergency, understandable naman kasi kailangan nila makadating as soon as they can. usually may sticker yung mga yan sa rear windshield to identify themselves as volunteer (fire or medic). if ganun, i just let them pass.

It also doubles as a show car sometimes and as a recruitment rig to recruit new members. So don't mind the exaggerated graphics and accessories. It even made an appearance on Hot Import Nights 2012.

Come to think of it Lifeline rescue has that Chevy Spark and Aeromed has a Toyota Starlet responder unit. Ang masasabi ko lang, these units have at least a jump kit (first responder bag) on board.

Director ako ng local volunteer fire brigade pero dahil sa work ko, more of sa EMS side ako nakahanay (although I always carry my helmet, boots, and turnout gear/fire suit with me). And yes, aside from being marked with our brigade, may sirena din yung unit na gamit ko. Usually ginagamit as first responder sa medical calls or pag area fire (immediate vicinity) because the way volunteer fire fighting works is dapat may magshout ng positive alarm before magpull out ng mga fire apparatus (safeguard against prank calls) so personnel within the vicinity do rush to the scene be it in their marked private vehicle, marked private motorcycle, or even their marked private bikes (Autolight makes a blinker/siren package for bikes, too). Siguro the BFP system works differently kasi profession nila iyon and palaging may duty sa stations. Kami naman pantulong lang and we (from Manila Northwest) have nothing against their system of doing things so we also expect them to respect the way we do things from our side.

Lights and sirens (especially on marked private units) are meant to warn other motorists and not force the right of way as we always say. And when they are in use, it is mandatory to give due courtesy to local police and traffic enforcement units as you pass by them or if you ask assistance from them to clear traffic for you. I have a Whelen FL220 flatlighter on board along with a generic LED magnetic mount beacon. The lights get used more because they are used to warn other motorists that the vehicle is stopped at an accident scene or that the street has been closed due to a fire or an incident.

Last time I used mine was responding to a 10-52 (ambulance needed) in Sampaloc. The medics called up asking for assistance and I was still at Chinese General so I went code 3 para makarating sa kanila. Traffic was bad but a fellow volunteer na hindi ko naman kilala, helped clear a path for me along with the other local traffic enforcement units. Unfortunately the patient started to deteriorate so sabi ng medics load and go na nila. On my part, itinawag ko na sa ER na parating kaming dalawang units para maka-ready sila. Sad to say, the patient did not survive his illness and was pronounced 30 minutes after arriving at the ER.

Righteous people can yak all day about the government decree on sirens and lights but as stated in the book of Legal Medicine and Medical Jurisprudence, vehicles used by licensed physicians when responding to emergencies are considered as ambulances. Besides, I don't get compensated for the volunteer work I do so please cut me some slack, ok. . Hehe.

I'll be the first to apologize to the people who I may have offended in any way with this post.

Ganda nung EVO. Pero bakit ganun, parang yellow silang lahat. Mandatory color ba yan?

Doc Ted's personal Pajero. He went all out with the paint and graphics already. Some of the lights, racks, and equipment came from generous sponsors.
