‘Kin’ of powerful Pols Arrested for Rape, Estafa, Fraud

MANILA, Philippines – He lived the life of a high-flying swinger and boasted he was a relative of powerful politicians.

But his alleged connections did not stop police from arresting him yesterday for a heinous crime. Richard Gonzales, who claimed to be a nephew of former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson and Pangasinan Rep. Jose de Venecia now shares a jail cell with common criminals. Gonzales was arrested at dawn yesterday on charges of rape, estafa, and fraud. Officials described him as a sweet-talking con man who victimized both men and women.

Gonzales, 30, of 941 Sabino St. Binondo, Manila, was apprehended by San Juan police at about 2 a.m. yesterday as he was leaving the East Asia KTV Bar in Pasay City. Police said they received a tip that Gonzales was inside the bar and that a Nissan Safari Patrol with the plate No. 8 was parked outside.

Gonzales is now detained at the San Juan police station as charges are being prepared against him, according to San Juan police chief Supt. Rodelio Jocson.
Apart from Richard Gonzales, he also used the names Rick Gonzales, Ricky Singson, Andrew Yu, and Mike de Venecia. Mandaluyong police last month detained him briefly for driving while intoxicated in a car with No. 8 plates issued only to congressmen.

Police yesterday confiscated from the suspect numerous cellular phone SIM (subscriber identification module) cards, 16 credit cards, two government-issued No. 8 car plates, a driver’s license with his picture and the name Mike de Venecia, and Land Transportation Office receipts in the name of Ricky Singson.

Pinalabas din itong suspect sa Imbestigador last Saturday. Pero blurred ang mukha at mukhang lasing. May binangga kasing taxi driver, pero inayos by issuing him 2 checks na tumalbog.

Yung isang tseke, inarbor ng traffic investigator ng Mandaluyong, tapos binigyan ang taxi driver ng 1.5k cash. So nung tumalbog, aba gustong bawiin yung cash nya! Nireport ng driver sa CIDG kaya ayun, nahuli sa entrapment.
