Tiptronic users: what's your favorite move?

I drive a City 1.5. I often use the tiptronic. To all other users, (Mitsubishi, fellow City, Jazz, and BMWs), what's your favorite stroke or technique?

Me, I often use this:

When cruising at 60-70 kph and I want or need a burst of speed, I

1. Floor,
2. Shift to "S" (still at floor)
3. Activate 7-speed (relaxes right foot a little)
4. Downshift to probably 4 or 5. Floor
5. Shift up to 6 or 7.
6. and I enjoy the burst, and goes back to "D" when I have overtaken my objective.

Any other tricks?

Tiptronic® is a registered trademark, and it is owned by German sports car maker Porsche, who licenses it for use by others such as Volkswagen and Audi.

Other manufacturers use Tiptronic-like systems under different names:
Acura: SportShift
BMW: Steptronic
Infiniti: ?
Jaguar: Bosch® Mechatronic
Lexus: E-Shift
Mercedes-Benz: TouchShift
Mitsubishi: Sportronic
Saab : Sentronic

Honda City? using tiptronic?

Yes, albeit it's not technically "Tiptronic" as this is a registered trademark for Porsche, but it is a "tiptronic"-like as you would refer to.

Too bad that Honda doesn't have a anything far more catchy than what they refer to now as the "7-speed mode".

This "tiptronic" is limited to Honda's CVT's (City's iDSI and VTEC, and Jazz). The controls are mounted on the steering wheel unlike Mitsu where controls are accessed via the shiftstick. Well, at least Mitsubishi's Sportronic sounds better than Honda's "7-speed".

why do you have to do so much just to accelerate faster?

In my Corolla GLi A/T all I do is this:

1. floor the gas
2. shift from D to 2 or 1 (depending on current speed).
3. enjoy the faster acceleration and shift back to D (or 2) when done.

you don't even need to shift the gears manually or put it in a lower range. just floor it in "D".

it is more fun to shift the gears yourself, though

my favorite move is to drive in "S" all the time.

complicated naman nyan lol though my a/t trans doesnt have steptronic, i just push the sports (S) mode button (which is just equal to putting the stick in D3) and just step on the downshift button located behind the gas pedal n putting the pedal to the metal. my head hurts pag maraming steps hehe

Flooring the gas do make the tranny downshift, but by one gear. Its more fun to downshift 2 gears down ;) hence, the ActiveMatic.

for the Honda City's CVT... just press floor the accelerator...

automatic trannies should select the gear that provides maximum power when the pedal is floored and the kickdown feature activated. i haven't heard of any a/t that didn't do that...

yup, lahat ng A/T nag downshift when pedal is to the metal, hahaha. maximum fuel efficiency yata ang goal ng City

i.e. 2004 sentra A/T shifts at 4,500rpm when you floor it even though the max power is achieved at 6000rpm

depends on the car. some a/t trannies do not stay in the lower gear long enough. manually selecting the gear (via shifter) would solve that problem.

in my case sports mode solves that problem since the tranny will shift on the 6k mark if floored. but a manual will still beat an a/t any day lol

yes, with all honesty, i've never really learned how to drive a manual properly, so sometimes I catch myself imaginig my cars are manual, he he he, so i guess you're right. but my idea is actually one down, two up. i know how to operate the manual, but couldn't convince myself to buy one. nagka-phobia na yata ako, when I was 18 naka-atras at bangga na ako habang hanging at traffic sa may pioneer paakyat ng edsa. he he he
