September 23rd, 2003 10:29 AM #1Hi All,
Ano ba ung definition ng AUV? Baket ung HiAce/Space Gear/Urvan not considered AUVs? Is it just a matter of marketing? E kung ung jeepney na medyo pinaganda't me aircon, can it be called an AUV too?

September 23rd, 2003 11:01 AM #2AUV = Asian Utility Vehicle.
Examples: Revo, Crosswind/Hi-Lander, Adventure.
HiAce, Space Gear, and Urvan are under the "van" category

Though you missed one more vehicle which is the newest member of the AUV family, the Honda CRV.

September 23rd, 2003 01:36 PM #5pero, ung nga...whats the diff between a van and an AUV? seating capacity? mas malaki naman ung vans. engine displacement? halos pareho lang naman. Pricing? Halos pareho lang e, especially after the excise tax thing. Size/weight perhaps?
Kc ang nakikitang ko lang na point in giving AUVs exemptions is the school of though na mas madami tao malo load; kc kung ganun, don't vans do a better job?
My point? Dapat me exemption ung mga vans!

Vans do have tax exemptions before the new tax is implemented. Kaya lang naman umaabot ng 1M ang price tag kasi maraming burloloy ito compared to AUVs. And vans do have more cargo capacity at the rear. And yes, vans do have more capacity, but size-wise they lose on AUVs with respect to length and height. AUVs tend to be more maneuverable than longer vans.

technically, AUVs should have at least 60% local materials. this is what made them tax exempt. ang nakakapagtaka pano na grant ng AUV category ang CRV, e mostly imported materials naman ang ginamit.

That's why Honda fitted the CRV with a 3rd row seat in the first place. They would want to enter it in the AUV category to be exempted from SUV tax law. But that was then, 'til some government agency literally measured if the CRV could legally fit in 10 adults. Then that was the only time it is moved to back to SUV category and slapped with its appropriate taxes.

September 23rd, 2003 02:37 PM #10Peeps,
Plain and simple..."AUV" Asian Utility Vehicle....from the definition itself...it's used/released only in Asia....So how would u consider CRV an AUV if u'll see it all over the world? it boils down to the fact na marketing Ploy of Honda Phil lang yun.. Peace
probably not... yet, siguro. too many unknowns, yet. but if the manufacturer would offer it to...
