This is a test to measure a vehicle's road handling & stability..
the skidpad test is used to measure a car's maximum lateral acceleration, calculated from the time it requires to complete one lap in a round shaped test course that has a radius of 200 ft.
another one is the 700 ft. slalom test which measures transient stability by challenging the driver to clip eight traffic cones while following a 700 ft slalom path.
here's an example of a road handling test result:
1995 toyota avalon xls
lateral accel(200 ft. skidpad)-----0.74g
balance-------------------------------heavy understeer
Speed thru 700 ft. slalom---------58.0 mph
balance-------------------------------heavy understeer
