For those of you interested, the 2007 PCOTY (Philippine Car of the Year) Awards will be shown... rather late, I might add... ...on IBC 13 this Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 10 pm.

With the number of winners, it might be a long show, but at least we'll get to see some cars...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I just found out yesterday, myself... can't wait to see the Crosswind get the "Business vehicle" award... :hysterical:

But I don't know if they'll show the "sponsored" awards... hopefully yung mga main awards, as chosen by the panelists themselves.

ito ba yung may mga voting centers sa malls or ito yung mga tinetest talaga ng mga motoring journalists? para kasing bawat car show/magazine may COTY awards e. nakakalito tuloy. ito rin ba nagbigay sa mazda6 ng award dati? parang walang follow up yun e. or accord nga ba? dami kong tanong hehe. basta alam ko medyo biased pag panay bati at salamat sa mga sponsors.

They're the ones who had the Mazda6 win before, and the Accord in 2006.

This is the Philippine Car of the Year. The one with the voting centers at the malls is the AutoFocus People's Choice. The PCOTY may have sponsorships, but they are completely independent. Scoring is done by anonymous voting amongst the members done during a test-drive evaluation of the vehicles. While it's not completely possible to rule out "vote buying", the diversity of the members of the Car Awards Group, journalists from many different publications, means that it's not feasible to buy your way to a win... note that they hae consistently given wins to cars within the class that drive well and represent value for money.

In fact, one of the things that matters most is putting your best foot forward during the testing phase. Some people questioned why certain vehicles did not win their categories... the answer is that the manufacturers sent testers in terrible condition, or were indifferent about which cars they sent. Their loss.

As for the sponsored awards? Hehehe... sponsors lang makakasagot niyan...

With the Autofocus, there were some issues regarding vote buying and multiple votes in the first year... when you could text in as many votes as you wanted from one cellphone. Needless to say, some sales departments used a lot of their budget to buy votes. They've limited that as of last year, and some of the winners were actually winners voted on by the public, not the sales reps (Honda Civic, for one). But the difference is still that the Autofocus People's Choice is selected by a public that, by and large, hasn't driven all of the cars in each category, and are often voting based on looks or brand loyalty.

Anyway, it's worth a watch, if you're looking for the cream of the crop for 2007. I may not agree with some of the choices, but they're all at or near the top of their class.
