number of cylinders po yan...yung V8 walo, yung V12 labindalawa. arranged in a "V" shape sila sa loob ng makina.
Mayron. Yung original na W12 engine ng VW. The W12 was VW VR6 engines mated together at around 72-75 degrees. AFAIK the "W-shaped" W12 engine eh concept lang and was never put into production.Originally Posted by gearspeed
Merong Passat na W8 yung engine tsaka A8 na may W12 engine. Yung Bugatti Veyron, W16 ang gamit.
Honga ano. "Three bank" engine nga pala ang gamit nung mga yan. Nagiging makakalimutin na ako, kulang sa vitamins. he he he.Originally Posted by mikaelrules
As for BHP and HP, AFAIK theres no real differenc between the two since both just mean horsepower. Most Europeans (especially the Brits) use BHP while US and Asian countries mostly use HP. Different terminology, same meaning. The "B" in BHP means brake. AFAIK, "brake" refers to a dyno. Back in the old days, engine torque or power was measured by applying brakes to the flywheel.
refers to the configuration of the cylinders. v8 or v12 means that it has 8 or 12 cylinder on a "v" format. meaning the connecting rod joining the crankshaft is in "V" shaped configuration as well as the cylinder block. this means, a more compact engine block compared to inline confiuration -thus, space saving (if you can call it that).
basically, a v6, v8 or v12 is derrived from a two: 3 cylinder , 2 4-cylinder or a 6 cylinder on each banks.
as for the w12 or w16, these configuration is derrived from 2 V6 or V8 engines joined at the crankshaft. more precisely, 2 V6 or V8's enjoined at the crankshaft.
ayan na namn tayo...seryosong nagtatanong di masagot ng maayos...
ano nga ba uli yon brod?

sa porsche (boxster)naman nakahiga ang mga cylinders so horizontal ang movement nila parang nanununtok hence the name "Box"ster
Aside from the Boxster, the 911's and Subarus also use horizontally opposed engines (Boxer-engine).Originally Posted by kimpOy
The "Boxster" in Porsche Boxster was derived from "Boxer(engine)" + "Roadster".

horizontally opposed yata tawag dyan... kinopya ni Ferdinand porsche sa design nya ng makina ng original, world war ii vintage volkswagen.Originally Posted by kimpOy
to digress a bit... ano ba advantage pag mas marami valves? mas madami fuel intake? mas mataas compression ratio? or mas mabilis burnt fuel exhaust? baket di na lang nilakihan yung input and outlet valve openings? at pwede bang mag by-pass operation pag nagbara yung isang valve?![]()
