    Help with Cebu Papers..

    I wanted to buy a 2nd hand car from cebu(but the car came from japan), but there are rumors that cars that came from there are underpaid in tax.. im from bulacan, i would like to transfer the ownership and place of registration here in bulacan right after i bought it..

    can anyone help me kung ano first step ko para malaman ko that the car im getting has no tax problems? the seller had emailed me a copy of OR/CR

    i want to make sure that the car has no paper problems before i buy it..

    thanks in advance to anyone who can help..

    pa transfer mo ownership in cebu, let the seller do the papers, if the papers are OK then you pay him.

    delikado yan pards...especially if di mu kilala yung taong binibilhan mu, if may problema nga yung papers nyan..the car might never get registered unless mag-lagay ka..di rin sulit

    bro -- its not worth it. you might end up losing your hard earned money

    its a fact that maraming smuggled vehicles dyan sa cebu. a friend of mine used to work in one such establishment. he resigned when he got convicted by his christian beliefs

    first problem mo will be the legality of the lto registration papers. maraming fixing ng lto papers dyan sa cebu. i know this first hand. i once used that system but only for convenience. my vehicle was in manila at that time but na pa renew ko ang registration sa cebu -- emission testing and all. a few years back, i read about this news item of a guy whose car was impounded as it was a "hot car" notwithstanding the fact that he was already the 3rd transferee

    second problem mo will be the customs duties. kahit na legal ang lto papers, it will not prevent the customs from seizing the car for unpaid taxes

    finally, i talked to a friend here in lto and they said that cars with ending plates in "Y" and "R" (usually the registration leters given to japan imported surplus cars) are on their watch list. they usually stop such cars and check the papers

    IMHO, not worth the hassle -- both actual and potential

    matanong nga...how much should (for example) a Honda EK be taxed?

    in fairness to the seller...hindi naman ata pwede i-pangalan muna agad sa bibili yung papeles pag di pag nagkakabayaran, diba?

    i agree sir, but how can we be sure that there will be no problem after you paid for it? what if there's a tax problem?

    you can have it verified sa customs if indeed the Certificate of Payment of the said unit exists.

    honestly, i have NO idea what the basis is for tax payment for imported cars. for an SLK that we sold, the tax payment was around P200k.

    how and where? hmm...will ask. you can have it checked at customs cebu mismo ;) will confirm this

    sad lang talaga na lagi pinagiinitan ang cebu units. and to think for the right price you can "buy" manila plates for your imported unit to avoid being pulled over by the police :nonono;
