What's the point of starting on the second gear ? Just like what the others said here, if the car is not going downhill or if it's not moving at all, there really is no other option but to start on the first gear. That's the fundamental rule of driving a car with manual transmission.

This all depends on whether first gear is an actual first gear, or a climbing gear, like on the L300, which goes to only 20-30 km/h.

When the first gear of one of our L300 services broke before, my cousin didn't bother fixing it. Didn't need it at all... not even when going up a tollgate off-ramp.

I can start off in 2nd gear on the Crosswind without slipping the clutch.

But if there's no need to... just start in first.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I have a friend who can start moving his Kia on 2nd.

What I am saying is, it IS possible but as niky said, there's no need to. Just start in first.

may be to save fuel, syempre nga naman, the higher the gear you use the fuel efficient it is. 2nd gear ako kapag nagha-humps (syempre nakabuwelo na rin naman e) saka pagnaahon 2nd gear kaya nadun sa besta namin, pero pagtraffic like stop and go or then biglang abante o arangkada, 1st gear,

Starting on second gear wont save fuel if you're coming from a standstill. You may even waste more as you'll have the propensity to push the gas pedal more to get moving since the engine is having a hard time.

Best to start normally from 1st gear and only use second in instances such as when you have some momentum or you're on a downhill grade.

the traditional practice is to use first gear when starting from stop. there's really no significant advantage or disadvantage in using second gear from stop, just as long as your engine can take it. and most diesel engines can take it.. but there is the safety factor: using second gear from stop does give the vehicle a faster speed sooner.. not to mention the comfort factor..

I mean on the start up, usually 1st and 2nd gear, alanganin naman mag 5th gear sa simula pa lang, bagito moves naman yun,

Dr.D has a point, starting on 2nd gear is a quick move, it gives a faster speed sooner nga,

the first gear was invented for a reason. use it kasi otherwise sana segunda na lang lagi ang start ng mga kambiyo sa mundo diba hehe but then again if that happened we might have a thread entitled: "start on the 3rd gear.."

1st gear always unless nasa motion na ang sasakyan (like in a downhill).

start on the 2nd gear..
