NEED HELP FOR MUSTANG ENGINE 302 or 351 w/ transmission

guys, my father just bought a 1973 ford mustang grande .

the whole thing needs a little bit more touch, because basically its our project car..

but there is this big problem....

engine is not there. the owners before us sold it because its just to much of a GASOLINE EATER....

so now we need to look for 1 because we nid the original engine...

    r there sm1 u know who sells 1????
302 or 351 V8 engine.,, any of the two will do, but we prefer the engine who has transmission because its really hard to find the transmission 2 if only the engine is bought...

tnx guys.. hope to have replies soon...

Hi. If you guys are still in the market for a V8, I know a guy who restores Mustangs who doesn't charge an arm and a leg like other "restorers". He has a 302 2v with transmission on hand and if you are interested, just let me know. By the way, I have a 69 and 71 mach 1 currently being restored by him while a friend is having his 70 mach 1 and 65 convertible refurbished as well.

You can also opt for a 460 or a 351 cleveland . I put a 460 in mine . I know hooker makes headers for a 460 swap . That is the ticket if you are making a hot rod muscle car . The cleveland came with a C6 tranny or 4 speed . I wish I was there I have the Cleveland that came out of mine still .Good luck with your new project . I would love to see it . If you opt for a 302 and plan on putting some mods in it I would use one of the later roller cam blocks as they have a little more thickness in the cylinder walls . The roller blocks actually weigh a bit more . If you plan on running a solid or roller cam use the Ford Motorsport oil restrictor kit . It is a real simple install . There is a valley girdle kit I highly recomend also for alot of strength if you make alot of power . Have fun ! Love them Stangs .

Any updates? Hope you got the engine

    Funnycar,
I was wondering would a 460 be a direct bolt-on fit? One of our members here is currently putting a 460 into his fastback (67 i believe) and said he had to move the firewall back 10 inches. Would a 73 grande require the same mod as well? Im not too familiar with the second generation mustangs.
Oh and feel free to join our musclecar discussions in the other threads

The 71 trough 73 STANGS ALL CAME WITH THE OPTION TO PUT A 429 IN . THE 429 AND 460 ARE FROM THE SAME ENGINE FAMILY . ALL YOU HAVE TO GET IS THE MOTOR MOUNTS FOR THE 429 . YOU NEED TO GET THE HEADERS FROM HOOKER . THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO SELLS THEM OFF THE SHELF . CUSTOM HEADERS ARE NOT COST EFFECTIVE UNLESS YOU GO ALL OUT RACE . YOU PROBABLY CAN USE A CAST FACTORY EXHAUST MANIFOLDS IF YOU ARE NOT AFTER ALL OUT POWER . I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOUR FRIEND MOVED THE FIREWALL . I HAVE SEEN BIG BLOCKS PUT IN FIRST GEN MUSTANGS WITH MOTOR PLATES . THE BIGGEST ADVANTAGE IS WEIGHT TRANSFER MOVING THE ENGIHE BACK . I MOVED THE ENGINE BACK ONE AND A HALF INCHES AND DOWN 2 INCHES IN MY 84 MUSTANG FOR BETTER HANDELING . YOU CAN ALSO USE MOTOR PLATES FOR YOUR INSTALL . i LIKE A MOTOR PLATE FOR ALL OUT RACE . THIS ELIMINATES ANY MOVEMENT OF THE MOTOR AND FLEX . I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU OUT .
