A nice little crossover. Ala Kia Soul of sorts... But looks much much better. And its global too, so it ain't a third world production only!

Heheheh. In the 2013 Ford Escape thread, someone said it looked like a Tucson. Sikat na ang mga Koreano. Maybe someday, someone somewhere will look at a foreign made car and say, "It looks like a Sarao." lol

Back on topic. Looks like India is becoming the testing ground for sub-compact SUVs or CUVs: Why Ford’s EcoSport launch is significant for India | Firstpost. Ah, the luck of the emerging markets, especially one with 1 billion people.

In the Phils, I think the EcoSport is more likely to be more successful than Suzuki's SX4 or Jimny, simply because it's a Ford. Interesting to see how this emerging segment will turn out when Mazda also comes in with the CX-5.

Yeah but unlike the Jimny that looks like a third world vehicle, this one looks nice. Panglaban nila sa Kia Soul pero feeling ko mas magaling sa presyuhan ang Ford.

Di kaya maging ganito ang final showroom version (or lower trim version)? Baka top-end model lang yung TRON headlights version.

Nearly Global, since unlike the Soul, it won't be sold in North America.
I think Europe hasn't been confirmed yet, but they're initially targeting emerging markets.
"The vehicle will expand Ford's presence in Brazil, India, ASEAN markets and others to be announced at a later time, with world-class technology and quality, sharing the new B-class platform which is expected to sell more than 2 million units by mid-decade"
    - Ford Press Release

According to a Motor Trend article "The new Ford EcoSport launches mid-year in Brazil, followed later by the Asian markets."

I think the EcoSport is an interesting B-segment Crossover. Would probably look good in "Tonka" yellow. :D

The outgoing EcoSport has a 4WD option, I hope the new one gets it too.

    "All-New Ford EcoSport Global Preview

After the release of the Buick Encore, I don't believe it doesn't have chances to be also offered in North America. As far as the European market goes, it's nearly an obvious replacement to the current European Ford Fusion, which current Brazilian-made Ecosport is based.

The B-Max is the tall hatch/MPV replacement of the euro Fusion.

Ford will unveil the production version of its B-Max ‘compact multi-activity vehicle’ at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show in March.

A small MPV set to replace the aging Fusion, the Ford B-Max features sliding side doors to aid access to the rear seats.

Even with the B-Max intended to replace the Fusion, the Ecosport would still be suitable for the European market, mainly in former communist countries and some with extreme weathers such as Iceland as a low-cost alternative to the Kuga (Escape), and it's also quite predictable to face competition with the upcoming Opel Mokka...

It might also be sold in Russia.
Aside from ASEAN market, the main target of the new EcoSport are BRIC nations (Brazil, Russia, India & China)

Some styling details of the EcoSport came from the Fiesta (which it shares its basic platform with) like the hood cutline, front quarter window panel and similar style-door mounted side mirrors etc.

Tail lights? The Kuga which was launched in 2007 has similar tail lights and back window/back light shape.

I hope it gets to our shore soon. Tagal ko na naghihintay sa car na yan. Although i think next year pa to dadating after ford focus. Anyway, for the mechanicals, here's the latest info:

    Mechanicals:

The wheelbase remains at 2.49 meters, while the width increased to 1.75 meters (two inches) and height dropped from 1.68 to 1.65 meters, including the trunk.

The length has also been lowered to 4.17 from 4.23 meters.

It will have 17-inch wheels with 205/55 profile tyres.

Yes, the Ford EcoSport will also be offered in 4WD variants for all you off-road junkies

Front wheel drive will have a rigid axle suspension in the hindquarters; the 4 × 4 will have multi-link rear suspension.

That's probably for the top spec model (same wheel and tire size as the EcoSport concept)

The other wheel/tire size is 16 inches (according to the Brazilian site that posted the spy photos of the Ecosport, it had 16 inch wheels with Pirelli Scorpion ATR tires)

For those who saw the article a few days back, it was initially reported to be wearing 15 inch wheels and tires, this was later edited to 16 inches.

The tire brand/model could vary between regions.

To be more specific, its similar to the semi-independent (H-shaped) torsion-beam rear suspension as the Fiesta.
