I had dinner with my parents and family friends a while ago in Filos at the Fort Strip. They serve Filipino food with some twist. I enjoyed a lot and I want to share to you guys what we ordered and enjoyed:
Appetizer:
-Gambas with coconut milk (Recommended)
-Tuna Kilawin
-Fish Spring Roll
and the most unique of all:
-Balut Patte
Pureed balut blended with olive oil, selected herbs and spices. Spread it on to a crusty bread and you wouldnt imagine that it is a balut patte.
Salad:
-Mango Shrimp Veggie salad
Entree:
-Ana Marie Tinola rice (Recommended)
Rice cooked in Tinola broth with chicken breasts, carrots, green papaya and mushroom. Very delicious and heavy. I didnt ask for a 2nd serving because it is so heavy on the stomach.
-Pan Fried Tilapia (recommended)
Tilapia fillet topped with guava butter sauce. Served with rice and garnished with carrot sticks. Recommended for fish lovers.
-Carne Kalitiran (Highly recommended)
The owner's family recipe and it tastes like Lengua. It was cooked all the way from GuaGua, Pampanga (yes, it came all the way from Pampanga).
-Kare Kare
The usual Kare Kare with a different presentation.
Dessert:
-Mango Pinipig tart (highly recommended)
Merengue sandwiched with heavy cream, crushed mango and pinipig.
-Ube Palitaw
Palitaw with ube flavor. Freshly made.
-Decaden Chocolate Cake (highly recommended)
I couldnt describe the taste. All I can say is that it is "the best!"
-Dalandan Merengue
To sour for me.
-Turon with Kasoy
Turon with the usual banana and jackfruit; cashew nuts and chocolate syrup added.
-Turon Leche Flan (Highly Recommended)
Yes, leche flan wrapped in lumpia wrapper. It so delicious and creamy!
Nata De Penacota
-Nata de coco topped with gelly coconut milk.
Restaurant ambience is simple but elegant. Simple dark wood table lay out with woven basket-like seats. As for the price, it is a bit expensive but worth the price because of the large servings. I would recommend this restaurant and I want to dine there again. Great for family gathering and birthdays.Last edited by carlocaraddict; September 11th, 2005 at 11:31 AM.

The name "Filos" was derived from the Greek word "Phylos" which means "friend". The owner thought of turning it to a Filipino sounding word (all the while I thought its the Pilo restaurant) and she thought of changing the spelling. She wanted to use the original word but people might thought its going to be a Greek resto. She told us that the restuarant layout was trimmed down to simplicity to so that customers will not think that it is a super dooper expensive restaurant. Btw, they just opened two months ago and also they will explain how the dish was cooked and its history.
