Am just curious, does the service charge that we pay with our food bills really go to the restaurant employees or does it go to the restaurant owners?

yes it does...
I used to work sa Shakeys pizza and aside from the regular salary namin noon meron pang distribution of service charge every 25th of the month.
Yes!! at the end of the shift/day, as the store closes hahatiin na nila yung TIP collected dun sa lahat ng mga nakaduty that day...

Mas maganda iyong centralized dahil iniipon ang tip then hati hati at the end of the day or sa specific period na napag usapan, iyong non centralized eh kanya kanya sila basta me naka assign sa kanilang mga table kung sino umupo roon at me tip sa waiter na iyon.
Thanks for the replies guys, dati kasi nahihiya ako if I don't leave a tip even if they've already included the service charge. Now that I know it really goes to the employees, I won't be bothered by it anymore.![]()
ako pag kasama na ang service charge, hindi na. kasama na yun. i asked somebody when i dined out. they (the crew) pointed it out to me, there is no need to leave a tip.
also, my uncle used to be a head waiter in a catering business for sometime. giving out tip is like saying, "i appreciate your service". kaya whenever i got the chance to give out tip i do kasi its like being polite to them.

not always... depende yan sa management... though more often than not - pinaghahatian yan ng crew.
service charges are covered by the omnibus rules implementing the labor code. book III, rule vi, section 3 of the said IRR states:
"Distribution of service charges. — All service charges collected by covered employers shall be distributed at the rate of 85% for the employees and 15% for the management. The 85% shall be distributed equally among the covered employees. The 15% shall be for the disposition by management to answer for losses and breakages and distribution to managerial employees at the discretion of the management in the latter case."
this legal provision mandates that employers not only account for the service charges collected but to also make sure that the proper amount is distributed to the employees.
if the employees feel that they did not get their corresponding percentage share, then they can actually file a complaint on non payment of service charges
