LONDON, England – “Thank you for the wonderful evening. Just wish we could do this more often.”
This text message from Gail Crocker, 46, was meant for her lover, but ended up in her husband’s phone by accident. It is the same message that exposed her betrayal, and ended her life.
Gail Crocker killed herself by overdosing on pills then slept inside her car’s trunk. She was working as a police officer from St. Stephen, Cornwall and married to Peter Crocker, 49.
The affair supposedly began when the husband went on a business trip in London. Gail met a colleague and went out on a date.
After the date, she sent her lover a message thanking him for the wonderful evening but the text was accidentally sent to her husband’s phone.
The couple fought during the confrontation that followed after the husband came back from London. Although Gail admitted to the affair, she insisted it was only a “one time encounter” with a friend and was also the first time.
Peter said his wife begged for his forgiveness. He recalled: “She was in floods of tears saying she was sorry. She said it was an isolated incident and that she had never done it before.”
Gail called her husband, who was still fuming mad over the incident, at work the following day. The two had another heated argument, with Peter even throwing his phone and breaking it.
On the way home from work later that day, he bought a new phone and came home late. His wife was nowhere to be found inside their house.
He also found out she did not report to work and had called in sick.
Mr. Crocker later received a call from friends saying their white Audi car was seen at a park in a nearby town.
Gail’s body was found in car’s trunk with a bottle of pills lying next to her, and a suicide note addressed to Peter and their two daughters.
“She was my life. Nothing was worth her taking her life. I’m lost without her,” was all the heart-broken husband could say.
Peter never expected his 30-year marriage to Gail would end in such a tragic fate.
