    just a Q.

naranasang umabsent kasi walang pamasahe noong kolehiyo.

Ano ga iyon Atari, brick game, game n' watch?

I was born poor. I had to work during my high school and college days to pay for my tuition. I had to take care of the needs of my siblings too. I never lost faith in God and he has been good to me and my family.

same here. di rin kami mayaman. ok lang, sakto lang. napag-aaral kami ng parents ko sa college (4 kaming college as of this school year). although there are times na medyo gipit na kailangan mag-abono ng baon paminsan minsan. nakaka-survive pa rin. we prefer to be healthy kasi than to be wealthy.

A decent preschool in the south area is at least P100K. Going rate for grade 1, P150K+-. Kung ako yan nung bata baka d nko nakapag-aral.

Out of curiosity I checked the tuition fee of zobel

    Its 140k for grade 1

Then I checked the tuition fee of the nearby school I went to:

    Welp, time to work harder.

You’ll need to cough up 3M cash to pay the 20% downpayment, then roughly 90k/month for the next 20 years for the balance of the loan. Ideally you don’t spend more than 40% of your income on loan payments, so you need to be earning 225k/month net to comfortably afford that payment.

Less than 1% of households in the Philippines earn more than 220k/month. That percentage is even lower for millennials/gen-Zs.

Now I have a better, still 2nd hand 10.5 gen Altis 2.0V and a beater 9th gen 1.6E, the best that I can get without getting myself deep into debt. So it has kept me wondering why relatively new employees drive better cars like SUVs or CUVs, some brand new at that. I am quite sure even if some are hired as officers I may still be getting better pay than them. And then there's those with family with kids in exclusive schools, and again they're relatively newer to the company as I am. How do they afford them? I will probably go nuts if I finance my lifestyle with debt.

Although I was already comfortable of what I was getting then, I always felt I needed better pay to really get settled.
I was still new at my job when I made the post. I can't believe I went from depressed about my job to loving it because of my boss

I don't like debt, kaya at my age I still have not bought any property. Same goes with cars. I guess your officemates either took a loan or given by the parents. Yung cousins ko din, wala naman stable job but their children go to good schools. I'm pretty much sure the parents help out.

I think you went to the same school as my brother, then there's a bond pa on top of the tuition fee

The general sentiment is that millennials will never be able to comfortably retire since their incomes don’t allow them to afford assets and build their retirement nest egg.

Just remembered this thread since I saw this pop-up on the Reddit front page:

What'''s going to happen when the first batch of millennials hit retiring age when over 4% don'''t have retirement savings? : antiwork

You’ll see comments confirming that the issue extends beyond the US, and is true for most urban centers where real estate prices far exceed wages.

As a caveat, r/antiwork is generally a pessimistic subreddit. But you can look around you and see that save for the one-percenters, most millennials and gen-Zs have a much bleaker economic outlook.

Hence why so many people my age choose to delay having kids, or forego having kids altogether.

    As the saying goes:

“Plants are the new pets, pets are the new kids, and kids are the new exotic animals - you only have them if you’re rich or if you’re crazy”
