meron, pero mas mababa ang standards para sa older cars.

I removed my catalytic converter 3 years ago. my car has passed emission testing every time.

i haven't seen catalytic convereters for new below 1M peso cars, so it's a good assumption that the emissions standards are not stiff

    Chuaed,

Is this for the Optra? If it is, just remove it. Run on lpg for emmissions test and you'll pass with flying colors. Like they said, your car will function without one.

    Bambino,

Standards are low. How do you think all those smoke belching busses and jeepneys pass? Oh ibang paraan pala yun.

^^^ Pag mainit na ang catalytic converter, it converts harmfull gasses to inert or safe gasses. Hence better emissions.

Some years ago I was able to buy a catalytic converter from NODALOS for my ride. Maybe you can check them out if they are still selling them.

Running a rich air-fuel ratio can melt a catalytic converter.

There are two parts to the cat con. First, the reduction part where oxygen is freed from NOx(oxides of nitrogen) resulting in N2 and O2. The freed up O2 is then (second), oxidation catalyst, used to burn CO and unburnt fuel (HC) resulting to CO2 and H2O. What leaves the tail pipe are O2, CO2, N2 and H2O all of which are inert or non polluting except now CO2 is causing global warming

Napansin ko lately ang lakas ng tunog ng catalytic converter especially after turning the engine off. Palitin na ba?

Ticking sound? That's normal due to expansion and contraction of the materials. The cat gets pretty hot after a decent drive and when you shut down the engine, the materials begins to contract and makes those noises.

Sometimes, the CEL pops up if the cat has lost its effectiveness (ie. downstream O2 sensor is detecting elevated emissions), or if you hear broken honeycomb material rattling inside the can assembly while the engine is running.
