What could be wrong sa van ko, during start ups mausok sya na puti pero pag mainit na makina wala na as in normal. Yung acceleration nya at condition pag naandar eh ok naman. Palagi to lalo na pag umaga o naipark ko na ng matagal, minsan i thought it was the glowplugs pero 1 click lang start na engine eh. Sabi pag glow plugs hard starting daw? Your infos would be highly appreciated.

white smoke means there is oil in the fuel mixture. could be oil is seeping or leaking into the cylinder while you are parked.

could be moisture sa internal structure? particularly in the exhaust department? "kadalasan" normal lang yan sa cold climates.

    dont worry too much...

anyways, do you find your van drinking too much engine oil? as in nababawasan ang oil mu in an strange manner. bigla na lang nababawasan? eto yung mga symptoms na may oil nga sa air-fuel mixture which means your engine is burning oil.

or during cold start lang ba ito?

the man is talking about glow plugs. the engine is diesel, talking about air fuel mixture is for spark ignited gasoline engines. if the smoke was continuous, yes, it could be too much oil but it would cause the diesel engine to runaway (high uncontrollable engine speed) until the engine blows apart

Correction lang po for everyone's knowledge on smoky exhaust. From the book
AUTOMOTIVE TUNEUP by William Crouse & Donald L. Anglin, chapter 34 page 365 ang reference.

SMOKEY EXHAUST : 1. Blue smoke - Excessive Oil Consumption
    2. Black smoke - Excessively rich mixture. Meaning
    more fuel.
    3. White smoke - Steam in exhaust. Meaning there's
    water.

From experience, white smoke when cold is often indicative of low cylinder compression, mostly on high mileage engines....... wear on piston rings and cylinder walls. Compression improves when hot due to thermal expansion of pistons.

guys sorry po for my late reply, ganun pa din po van ko tuwing umaga. Now to answer your post one by one:
    1.) Make and Model - 4m40 / '96 Spacegear 4wd 80k mileage
2.) Napansin ko lang na may parang film ng oil sa exhaust manifold connecting dun sa engine block, pero di naman nagbabawas.
3.) May nagsabi sa akin na mechanic na baka daw nozzle tip, but not sure ako dun.
4.) Pwede yung sinabi ni dieseldude pero 80k pa lang yung van ko and wala kong ibang problems except for that cold start with white smoke.

eto pa, pag start nanginginig yung engine pero after 30 to 40 seconds eh ok na yung tining (tunog) nung makina, naisip ko baka fuel filter though nakabili na ko di ko pa napapalitan, pero nagtataka ko bakit me white smoke as in white (hindi blue) and tuwing lumalamig lang sya nagkakaganun?

yung air filter ko may breather na nakakabit from the engine cover, napansin ko may oil film is this normal? Kelangan ko na yata magpalit ng air filter to isolate it one at a time. Please continue to pour in your comments mga peeps! thanks!

hehehe please read the disclaimers on textbooks written by william h crouse and donald l anglin, books written by jack erjavec, by john remling. the texbooks, sorry to say have disclaimers and are broad, generalized and basic in coverage. if a diesel engine were burning oil it might show minimal bluish white smoke until the engine warms up to normal operating temperature.
    3. White smoke-Steam in exhaust. meaning there's water; the by products of an efficiently burning engine are H2O and CO2. fuel (HC) combined with O2 typically yields H2O and CO2 and maybe if the combustion temperature exceeds 2500 degrees fahrenheit, will yield some NOx

White smoke occuring during early morning engine startups is normal if and only if mawawala na yung white smoke after warm-up. The reason is that since diesels need high temperatures from compression to ignite the fuel e ang nangyayari sa umaga e masyadong malamig ang makina kaya fuel burns incompletely. at isa pa, the piston rings have not yet expanded to their working fit thus the insufficient compression.

Pero kung hindi mawawala ang white smoke even at loaded conditions, here are some of the possible causes:
    1. Poor atomization ng fuel
    2. Injection pressure too low or nozzle assy damaged
    3. Insufficient compression pressure
    4. Fuel injected too late
    5. Fuel contains water.

From my experience with my pick-up (4D56), parating ganun lalu na ngaun malamig ang panahon. Nanginginig during startups at may white smoke pero after warm-up nawawala din. At ganun din yung traktora na ginagamit namin. White smoke at cold starts then wala na after warmup.

If ever blue smoke ang present, it means oil is getting past through the piston rings then into the combustion chamber

What is the make and model of your van/engine?
