What is Common Rail Diesel Technology?

My folks just bought the new hilux because of its huge bed we can now put larger steel pipes and planks of wood. Our dissapointment AGAIN is walang bar sa likod pa install pa.

ANyway, back to the title what are the PROS & CONS of crdi?

Im sure may topic nang ganito and i dont have time to search.

I know crdi is electronic and ang ganda ng engine response its almost car like.

But Ive heard from my boss that crdi can be damaged at a certain time because our fuel quality here is poor. Is this true?

yup, im staying away muna sa mga crdi units because of the poor quality diesels we have in the philippines. our 2000 4x4 4jx1 trooper gave out at 35000kms. barado na daw injectors. guess wat, 47000pesoses para palitan. i do hope that the newer vehicles are better. yung ibang tao nga sabi sa akin why mga x5 ok naman, i told them go ahead and drive ur x5 everyday for 2 years n they' ll see what i mean. yung mga diesel x5s naman d nila gamit arawaraw n mga low mileage so kahit 4 years na d pa umaabot ng 2ok kms karamihan.

ang pangit ay ang quality ng fuel dito sa pilipinas.

euro I lang ang implemented dito sa atin. kung euro IV standards na ang implemented, hanggang ppm na ang sukatan ng sulfur content ng diesel, hindi lang %.

i don't think there's a problem with crdi technology. as most of the guys have said, the issue is the poor quality of diesel in our country.

can't help it... doon na talaga papunta ang diesel technology. Suot nyo na lang ang mga may hiwagang mayroon kayo pag bibili ng oto, ganon din naman di ba pag bibili ng bahay/lupa, opening a showroom, date ng bagong girlfriend etc...

actually CRDI is good and so far i havent read anything negative about the CRDI.

are the 4jx1 crdi engine? ang alam ko kasi sensitive lang talaga ang injectors ng isuzu specially the late model troopers.

yup. Isuzu's 4JX1 are CRDi engines.

May client kami who happens to be a former employee of Shell. Sabi nya diesel fuel natin pang factory spec. mataas pa ang sulfur content

sulfur content ng diesel fuel natin is currently at 0.05%. although malaki na rin ang improvement pero hindi pa rin sapat.

ang euro III, 350 ppm (part per million). while ang euro IV, 50 ppm ang requirement.

This problem was solved by toyota. Lets wait and see na lang. Yes diesel here in the philippines is dirty, but the 2ND generation d-4d that toyota put on the hilux will elimate the problem of clooging injectors. I heard lots of cases with that sa trooper.

Simple explanation lang why that won't happen to your hilux...

The d-4d that the new hilux has now is the first in the market with secong generation common-rail.

The 2nd generation common rail is the fuel rail wgich stores the highly pressurized fuel before dispersing to the injectors. With this, it won't clog because the pressure will be like trying to carry an adult elephant on your thumb. Thats how high the pressure is.

The second gen common rail also has a high pressure fuel pump....

another advantage is the 32 bit ecu. Its technology is advanced already and the ECU monitors the temperature, RPM and other factors to control the injection timing.

I hope with these, you will feel more at ease with you r purchase of the new hilux. ...sana you got it from me na lang. heheheeh!

This is a good explanation. So pwede na rin pala ang diesel quality diyan but with Toyota's second-generation CRDI. I assume those of Hyundai and Isuzu CRDI is questionable. Dapat kasi pinag-disseminate ito sa consumers muna bago nilabas ng Hyundai and Isuzu ang CRDI nila...Kawawa naman ang mga nakabili na...

as far as i know, the latest in common rail technology is in its fourth generation already. and as far as the high pressure common rail and pump is concerned, both of these are features of first gen crdi tech pa.

i have a crdi kia carnival and i have driven it everyday for nearly a year now. my odo reading is nearly 25,000 km now and i haven't experienced any problem with its injection system. so far... and i keep my fingers crossed.

i think that the dirty diesel concerns with the crdi can be addressed by changing fuel filters more frequently than what the pms recommends. for peace of mind, kumbaga ba.

several months ago, i asked christian tan of fronte motors in banaue about the dirty fuel vs. crdi issue and he told me that the problem lies with the way the isuzu 4jxti is designed. i didn't quite understand the techie things he told me but the gist is: something in the isuzu's engine shuts the system down, kumbaga ba safe mode, if it encounters dirty fuel. i think he has a point there. caveat lang, i might have misunderstood what he said but he assured me that it's something that i must not worry about with the kia's j3 engine and crdi system. if i am not mistaken, most of the bad raps concerning the crdi system is linked with the isuzu trooper's engine. they released the engine in the domestic market at a time when local fuel quality is not suitable for the said engine.

renewed consumer interest in diesel passenger vehicles, with its introduction of the Jeep® Liberty
Common Rail Diesel (CRD) later this month. Each 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD leaving the factory will be
powered by B5 – a five percent blend of biodiesel. More than 40,000 consumers have already expressed
interest in Jeep Liberty's “clean running diesel.”
The National Biodiesel Board (NBB) members, convening for their annual board meeting in St. Louis this
week, were among the first in Missouri to test drive the much-anticipated Jeep Liberty CRD as
DaimlerChrysler hosted a Ride-and-Drive experience at the board meeting. St. Louis area members of
the Biodiesel Backers, an NBB Web club, also attended the event.
The Jeep Liberty diesel, the first diesel-powered mid-size SUV to be offered in the United States, will
achieve approximately 30 percent better fuel efficiency than Liberty's comparable 3.7-liter V-6 gasoline
engine. Diesel engines also reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 20 percent compared with gasoline
engines.
