As soon as you parked, turn off the aircon, stereo, then the engine, without revving, to save on precious gas. Idling for more than a minute wastes more gas than re-starting it. Ang advise nga ni Quiksie ay not more than 10 seconds.

For my gas powered ride, I turn off every gizmo (aircon, engine, lights {kung gabi}) then I just turn the engine off after, oh, 5 seconds of iding. Revving is bad, so I don't rev.

For my Turbo-D van, what I do now is that, about 3-5 kms from my destination, I slow down (sometimes considerably) but not less than 45 kph. This allows my turbo to spin down or a bit slower. After I park, I wait 1-2 minutes befire shutting down the engine. Again, no revving.

As far as long stops at traffic lights goes, I don't turn the engine off. IMO, shutting and strating the engine between every traffic stop is not only a waste of fuel, but could contribute to the wear and tear of the engine.

10 secs? Di ba masyadong mabilis yan? Baka maubusan ka na battery niyan. O mag wear out kaagad starter mo? O pag naka A/T, yung tranny masira kaagad.

It's not healthy to sleep inside your vehicles, there's a risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

so if your car has carbureted engine ok lang ba i-rev before turning off?

True. There are a lot of documented cases of persons who died this way.

Read the car manual(if you still have it though), car manuals contain information such as these. Some samples of instructions in car manuals include: "Do not leave the engine idling for long periods of time.", "If you are going to idle the engine for longer than 3 minutes, turn it off and save gas"... and so on....
wala na po yung manual nung i-acquire ko car (2nd-hand) about 5 years ago.

Hit the Internet. There's a good chance you could fine a manual, although it might not come for free.

    Alam nyo... 1 word... hehe

    paranoia...

Just turn the engine off if you know you wont be moving in the next 5 min or so (like while waiting for your better half's "be there in a minute" (which means, hintay ka mga 30 mins)...

your tranny, starter, battery won't die prematurely if you do this, unless para kang tricycle na kada andar papatay ka ng makina...

walang "counter" mga kotse telling you not to exceed "x" tries... just use common sense.

revving before shutting off is bad for diesels.

for turbo engines, it's advisable to "idle down" usually for 1-2 minutes (as recommended in the manual) ONLY after running at high speeds to give the turbo a chance to cool down. if it's normal speeds naman (less than 80kph), ok lang to turn the car off agad.
