    Car is Corolla GLi 4afe 1.6 ...

Notice late last year everytime I suddenly steps on the gas pedal, engine is pinging at around 2000-3000rpm and sluggish acceleration .. I've been using Shell V-power always ..

I figure maybe because of carbon build up due to short distance driving from home to office ..

Pero diba may carbon cleaning agent ang shell vpower ???

So I remembered Caltex's Techron cleaning agent that has been getting good reviews abroad ..

I filled up a fulltank of Caltex Platinum .. And on the 3rd day of using it the engine pinging or predetonation is gone and the acceleration is superb .. the advertise is 1 whole full tank will bring back the engine performance to optimum level and mine just took 3days and an almost 1/4 of the full tank ..

I guess the cleaning agent of Caltex is better than Shell .. Maybe Techron is the real deal ..

can you please or somebody here enlighten me how does the cleaning goes? because as far as i know once the fuel gets inside the combustion chamber it detonates immediately, so how is it possible to clean the surroundings when its gone already in micro seconds?

in the few microseconds that's allowed it, it loosens the deposits daw.
more than that, google doesn't offer much more.
i suppose the answer is in the complicated chemical publications that the public does not have easy access to...

the article i saw says the chemical is not unique to caltex; the active ingredient is available in more concentrated additive form in the market.

Remember that the fuel spends a whole two cycles in a four-stroke engine (intake and compression strokes), so technically the fuel spends half the time in the combustion chamber at any given moment the engine is running.

Consider this. With the engine idling at around 800 RPM, each cylinder will be injected with fuel 400 times a minute, or around 6-7 times per second. The repetitions alone would allow the cleaning agents to work. What more if you're cruising at 1,800 RPM or higher.

Same with what happened with our car... been using Shell VPower and then because of lower prices, went for Caltex Platinum... and i immediately noticed the improvement. Less sluggish and smoother acceleration... then also got better fuel efficiency.

Could be the Techron too... but a lot of people are firm believer in Shell as the top notch fuel.

I just feel Shell has better marketing. It's logo with the white, yellow, and red color scheme is certainly brighter and more attractive than its competitors. With names as Nitro plus and Nitro Plus Racing, who wouldn't want to put their fuel in their car?

You could also ask a gas attendant for a saveplus card so that everytime you gas up, you get a P2.00/L discount.

    Techron uses polyetheramine or PEA.

We don't have a Caltex station near our place, I just use Techron concentrate once a year.

Ok glad to get confirmation from carguys in this forum. I’ve felt like I was giving a disservice to the car engine by not putting shell’s nitro plus. Haha

I was also a firm believer of Shell for years until I experienced the pinging, sluggish acceleration and hard starting (specially when engine is turn off while not fully warmed up, hard starting occurs) .. All those problems are gone now that I'm using Caltex Platinum .. I guess experience is really the best teacher ..

I thought most of you here are Shell users, I'm glad that there are plenty of Caltex users also ..

The main reason I was using Shell before, was that I just don't like Petron, and I thought due to the fact that Caltex no longer have a refinery here in the Philippines that their products are now inferior to Shell but my experience is wrong..

I just thought that because Caltex is now just importing fuel due to the fact that their refinery was closed a few years back, that their fuel is inferior to Shell ..

Your right, what set's them apart was that they have Techron additive in their fuel ...

I think Techron Concentrate & Redline SI-1 are the only ones using PEA (polyether amines) in their fuel system cleaners ..

Texaco ba yung may dala ng Techron sa US? My uncle also likes it. But all his cars have gas engines.

Used to fill up with Caltex before for our diesels but despite the Techron additive the Euro 2 engined trucks seemed to smoke more.

I am assuming that you can buy this to any Caltex station. May I know how do you use it?
