Previously using Mobil Super 1000 15w40 and after that, Honda Vtec Lev 10w30 which are all Mineral Oil ...

Engine was ok and noise is normal ..

Change to Mobil Super 2000 10w40 Semi-Synthetic Oil .. Now the engine is very audible .. You can the valve tappets ticking ...

Is it a normal noise of semi synthetic engine ?? Will it damage my engine in the long run ?? Or is it only Mobil because some say Caltex Havoline Semi Synthetic offers a silent engine ...

Should I go back to Mineral Oil ???

    Car is Corolla .. Engine is 1.6 4afe ...

Go back to using mineral oil. Try "thicker" oil this time, 20w50.

Synthetic oil has good detergent capabilities. Most probably, it loosened the "mineral" build-up on your valve train, hence the noise.

don't fix if it ain't broken LOL i mean why change to fully synthetic anyway?

funny i just saw my 90's corolla driving past earlier tonight, probably by it's 3rd owner. it's probably as old as your car. i never used fully synthetic on it

btw when was the last time you checked the valve clearances? paano ba adjustment ng 4afe? shim based?

It's no fully synthetic .. its just a semi synthetic oil ..

That's the problem .. all the mechanics and shop I've asked said there's no adjustments on 4afe's .. unlike the 2e engines that can be adjusted according to specs via shim ...

you sure? 2E valve clearance can be adjusted by turning the adjuster then tightening the locknut. i'm not sure about 4afe but if it's shim based then you have to find someone who knows how to change to the correct thickness shim

Agree with this one. If its shim based, there is a thickness chart for the valve clearnace adjustment and usually done when the engine is cold. Casa and some autoshops have this. If your old shims are out of adjustment, its time to buy new shims..

Since the abnormal noise started when the oil was changed,go with the last thing done. Stay away from the thought of changing the valve lifter shims. Believe me it's not fun specially shims are hard to find. On newer Toyotas it's even harder since you have to change the whole bucket valve lifter or cam follower.
