April 9th, 2010 10:20 AM #1hey tsikoteers! My brother in law's car is lancer 95 MX. One cylinder is not burning air and fuel. The engine is very low on power and vibration is terrible. Spark voltage is present and the spark plug is new. the mechanic said "may singaw sa balbula" or lose compression on that cylinder. He recommended top overhaul and estimates the cost to be almost P17, 000. Considering the other 3 cylinders are fine, should it be complete top overhaul o yung defective cylinder lang ? Pwede ba di na galawing yung 3 ok na cylinder? The charge include: head gasket, 16 valve seals, machine works totalling 9000 (valve reface, head reface, ring insert).
Thanks!

April 9th, 2010 10:34 AM #2Complete top overhaul dapat. Para lahat ng valvula ay pressure tight ulit.
Parehas din babayaran mo sa mekaniko. Pero kung gusto mo isang sylindro lang pwede rin (ikaw may-ari so ikaw masusunod) pero you will gain nothing but more to lose.
17K for top overhaul ay mahal. Kayo na lang maghanap ng machine shop at makinegotiate ng machining jobs. Canvass to get lowest priced top overhauling parts and consumables. Sigurado ako na hindi aabot sa ganyang halaga.

Consult another mechanic for second opinion at mukhang mahal ang singil sa iyo.

April 9th, 2010 07:15 PM #5Sprint in Banawe can do a top overhaul for less. If you're coming from Quiapo turn right at Banawe st. The first corner to the right, that's where they're located. Come early in the morning though, lots of people have their cars serviced there because of the reasonable pricing.

April 17th, 2010 12:04 PM #6had the vehicle checked by another mechanic, he said the injector was the culprit for one cylinder that is not firing. This morning i checked the injectors myself. I placed a screwdriver tip on the injector and the other end to my ear. All injectors are clicking. with the engine off and wiring unplugged, resistance readings for the injectors all read about 60 ohms. however, when I measure voltage across wire injector harness with the engine running, the voltage on the bad cylinder reads 1.5 V, while the good ones read 1 volts. Is the injector on the dead cylinder defective or the simply the voltage going to the injector? What should i do about this? Pls. help guys

please identify your engine type, series, size (engine displacement), ignition system whether distributor type or distributorless, emission control equipment. the most detailed information gets the best recommendations. sorry for not being familiar with your system, but when you post, give all pertinent information that could be useful in diagnosis.

April 17th, 2010 09:21 PM #81. have you removed and checked the sparkplug condition on each cylinder/
2. was compression test performed and confirmed loose compression or no
compression for the suspected cylinder?
3. was the suspected injector move to another cylinder for testing and defect verification?

April 17th, 2010 11:55 PM #9I agree with tip_tipid, I recommend doing a good compression test with a reputable shop. Petron CCC in Ortigas only charges P150.00 for a compression test. Also, have you checked the high tension wires? Baka yun lang yung problema.
It is pretty unlikely naman na isang butas lang ang masisira.
