is it ok to replace only the valve seal?

my engine is still running great(strong and quite) and still looks great because of proper maintenance. the only problem is that since this February it started emitting white smoke once in a while, while driving. but now its continuous.

i'm planning to have a top overhaul, but just replacing the valve seal. i don't want it to be brought to a machine shop. because it still runs great.

    any suggestions?

    thanks

What is the smell of your exhaust? Oil consumption?
If the car still runs ok wag mo na galawin.
On your next tune up readjust valve clearance and tanong mo kung pwede na isama and palit ng valve seal.

sir when it is at idle there is no visible smoke naman. it only appears when the car starts to move or when it reaches 2000rpm. when i'm running for about 80kph the smoke starts to enter the trunk then into the cabin. it smells like burnt oil. my car is a sentra lec ps. i'll try that sir thanks.

if it smells like burnt oil, you might need more than a change of the valve seals.

check your oil level and see if it drops as you use the car over a week or month. if it does, the engine might be in need of overhaul. but you can do a compression test just to make sure of the condition of the internals. do not overhaul the engine unless it is necessary or is long overdue.

the car is still performing great. it's still quite and still have power. so it didn't occur to me that it needed an overhaul. last month the oil level from the dip stick declined to about 1/8 or more so i've added some oil. up to now the decrease of oil is still not going more than 1/8 from the dip stick.

how much is the compression test sir? is it available at servitek branches? i'll also try to have a test if its cheap.

What is your mileage? Try o pull the dipstick while engine is running and observe the oil that spits out kung maliit na talsik or sumusuka. Check your tail pipe for wetness due to oil. Check your air filters if clogged the pistons has a tendency to suck oil because not much air is available. Magipon ipon ka na for overhaul for a top or general overhaul. Once you get white smoke at lower rpm means your piston rings/cylinder walls cannot hold compression for ideal combustion.

I had a similar problem a couple of months ago. The only difference is it happened after overhauling. I took it back to the mechanic and he replaced the valve seals (Which were NOT the proper valve seals in the first place!). No more white smoke ever since.

compression test is normally about 200.

if you like we can replace the valve seals without lifting the head. just be sure that you use oem valve seals and not replacement ones.

many of my friends suggested nga to replace the valve seal only. because it only produces white smoke when hitting 2000 rpm.

now i will be looking for a good shop.

sir speedy, ask ko sana kung how much magpa-diagnose ng engine (4AFE).
para sana sir ma-check yung performance (timing, idling, air fuel mixture). TIA

Abnormal white smoke is usually caused by coolant leaking into cylinders. Burning of fully synthetic engine oil is also said to produce white smoke.

Blue smoke is the prophet of doom for excessive engine oil burning. It may come from bad valve guides or worn cylinder wall/ piston rings.

Oil is drawn(vacuumed) from bad valve guides when engine is off or low load condition. Car will smoke blue when newly started decreases or disappeares while you cruise.

Blue smoke that worsen with increasing load and acceleration is usually caused by bad rings/cylinder wall.

While running, rev the car high, back-off then accelerate again, blue smoke? the rings or walls are likely the culprit.
