    Hello Fellow Tsikot members,

I was just wondering, and hopefully someone can shed some explanation into this, but I noticed that the exhaust smell coming from a hyundai CRDI engine smells different than one that comes from let's say a Toyota (D4D) or Mitsubishi (DI-D) engine.

Yung sa Hyundai kasi (I noticed this with my accent and a Tucson CRDi parked once) parang sour-smelling yung amoy ng exhaust niya. Still smells like diesel exhaust, pero mas maasim and mas masakit sa ilong. Whereas with my architect's Montero DI-D and our company shuttle vans (Toyota Hiace Grandia with D4D) the exhaust smells like a regular diesel engine.

Does anyone know what the difference is in terms of construction/design that might cause the difference?

I tried smelling our Innova's emissions by following it with my wife driving uphill and me riding a motorcycle.
Its emission smelled like burning dry leaves or branches with a bit of cooking oil on it.

Different from gasoline engine exhausts but definitely not the same as diesel jeepney exhausts.

I'll try it again sometime hahaha.

IMO, the smell differes if you do it outdoors or inside the garage.

Not sure about ford's tdci kung ano amoy. Baka ito na nga bagong uso hehe

    question:

    what would be the purpose?

IMHO, it is dangerous to smell or amuyin yung exhaust ng tambutso mapaGas of mapaDiesel.

Wag masyado serious. Once in a lifetime experience lang hehehe.

Thank you for the insight sir. We do understand that it is dangerous to deliberately smell the exhaust. Pero di naman po natin ito maiiwasan lalo't araw araw natin nararanasan either sumakay or mag drive ng petrol or diesel powered vehicle. No purpose on the question sir, just curiosity on the engineering behind the engines of different brands that result in kung ano man yung nagiging amoy ng exhaust.

Peace po tayo sir ha I do understand your point we just want to have a fun discussion here.

Hehehehe.

By the way, afaik may kinalaman ang metal na gamit sa cat.con. kaya maaring magiba ang product of combustion after the cancon na may effect sa smell. Hihihi

    Peace brothers.

Antayin natin mga engine gurus who may have a technical explanation to all this.

It could be the catalytic converter.
