Engine Coolant

i have a car which i use coolant and another wherein i don't. ive noticed in the car with the coolant that the engine temp varies with outside temp, at night the meter does not reach the middle area as compared with the one without coolant na palagi nasa gitna, any suggestion? should i start putting coolant in both?

DO NOT INTERCHANGE RED COOLANT WITH GREEN COOLANT.

If you're car uses green, stick with it. If it is red, stick with red. Marami pa din namang brands na pagpipilian among the two types. Just a friendly reminder.

Too many factors to consider, like thermostat condition, fluid flow in radiator core, etc. You should put coolant because it will extend the life of your waterpump and cooling system in general. Do not judge your cooling system by merely looking at the temperature gauge.

i stand corrected and you're right. the engine cooling system has its own temp threshold that activates the circulation of the coolant or water mixture. thanks for the info!

Almost all the brands function well provided to flush them at the correct intervals. Just make sure you get the right TYPE for your engine.

I think that the the only reason that radiator coolant is colored orange(red) or green is for identification.

After you use your car, the only thing that drips from your car should be water from the aircon (assuming you use your airconditioner). The next fluid that could lead would be oil engine, transmission, which is easy to detect by our sense of sight or touch. Then it would be brake fluid, which has an odor, just like oil. You can tell the difference between oil and brake fluid/water by their color. Water and brake fluid can be identified by the texture of the fluid and the slight pungent smell of brake fluid.

Now if the radiator leaks and its filled with water, you can't tell the difference from the condensed water from your airconditioner. If coolant was not colored and dilluted at 50%/50% or 30%/70% with water, you wouldn't think that your engine cooling system had a problem until you boil over.

The colored liquid/residue that you would find under your car would tell you what sort of fluid was leaking and should give you and off hand indication of where to start looking.

The red coolant has a different formulation from the green one. Ipinaliwanag na ito dati (hindi ko lang mahanap). Interchanging them can lead to disastrous (and possibly expensive) results that is why they are of different colors.

I think both of them are still ethelyne glycol based.

one liter lang ang coolant ko used mainly for it's anti-corrosive properties lang. di naman nag oover heat even sa traffic.

I just had my radiator drained rin kina Chieffy recently. Unfortunately, naubusan na sila ng Caltex long-life coolant, so I had to run off to Cash & Carry. I was able to buy the Castrol Long-Life Coolant (color blue). Our mistake was not reading the label, so we diluted it 50/50. Upon closer inspection, 2:1 pala dapat ang ratio. Ok lang naman siguro. Ngayon, napansin ko, once nag-start ako, it takes a longer time to reach the normal 1/3 mark of my temp gauge.

1:1 is 50/50... 2:1 is 75/25 na diba?

The main reason why the "coolant nakakasira ng radiator" myth came along is because people almost NEVER drain and change their coolant as noted in their manuals back in the 80-90s... Coolants (regular ones) never last more than a year, after 6-8 months they start breaking down leaving deposits which clogs the radiator fins and such... If you change/drain your cooling system as directed, it should not be flakey

i think 1:1 = 50/50 din but 2:1 = 100/50 so for every 10L water, 5L coolant dapat.

correct me if im wrong sa tingin ko lang naman po.

By my understanding, 2:1 is actually 66.++/33.++. For ex, a 3 liter solution (combined) of coolant and water would actually require 2 liters of coolant and 1 liter of water (or vise versa; 2 li water and 1 li coolant) to fulfill the 2:1 ratio. Tama po nga ba ito?

sa toyota casa.. they change the coolant every 40T Km and 80T km .. not sure with other car brands..

on my dad's 2000 revo.. we always changed the coolant every year starting from the 3rd year of the car..

nadala na kasi kami sa previous car namin na nabubutas lagi radiator sa kahihintay ng 80Tkm/120TKm .. mura lang naman coolant compared sa repair ng radiator.. lalo na at mahigit 10 years bago kami magpalit ng car..

Pareho intindi ko as with pissword and bacon. 2:1 means 2 parts water, to 1 part coolant. So in a 3-liter mixture, 2 liters is water, 1 liter is coolant.

ang gawa ko kasi 2 liter na distilled water at 1 liter na coolan para sa mga 3li na radiator initially makulay then in after a 4-5 months dun mo mapapansin na halos plain water nalang yung nakikita ko thats the time na mag padrain na ako ng tubig including preasure flush ng tubig at hangin sa radiator na rin ..dko na alam ang reading ng kung ilang kms na eh hehe..tama po bang process ito ng pag drain a radiator d pa naman kami nagpapalit ng radiator panay hose lang at clamps recomended kasi ng mechanic ni father dear

eh pano kung may kalawang na yung water sa radiator? how do i make sure na naflush lahat before putting in new coolant?
