my car is a 1995 corolla XL, acquired it 4 yrs ago. annually ang change oil ko since then, using shell helix semi-synthetic or castrol magnatec (semi-synthetic). nabasa ko sa thread parang common ang 5000 kms or 6 mos change oil, malaki ba ang epekto sa makina kung annually ang change oil? kasi nag aaverage lng ng 2000 to 3000 kms ang tinatakbo ng auto ko yearly, tsaka luma na rin naman ito.

Okay lang yan since semi-synthetic naman ginagamit mo. Pero better use a good quality oil filter and a fully-synthetic oil na lang if yearly ang palit mo.

On my point of view sir mas mura bumili ng langis at oil filter and I change oil kaysa abutin ako ng alanganin sa daan at mas malaking sira.

    Just my 2 cents ...

The six month interval is not required. It's not even in most owner's manuals. It's only provisionary, in the expectation that you have driven in heavy traffic.

If you want to be sure... if you DO drive in heavy traffic 80% of the time, shorten the interval a bit. Otherwise, follow the mileage interval. Just be sure to check your oil for moisture contamination, especially if it sits in the garage for long periods of time.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

If the piston rings already have significant wear, then the more dapat na mas maiksi ang intervals since the blow-by gases from the combustion chamber accelerate your engine oil's breakdown.

We have 19 year old car which is rarely used nowadays (approx 3,000 to 4,000kms per year) but it's still driven on the road once or twice a week. Before, it used to get a change oil every 5,000kms but now we do it yearly. In it's next oil change it's getting Mobil Delvac MX oil and a Baldwin filter as well.

As an engine gets older, it's even more critical to do oil changes IMO.

Guys, please take note of the fact presented by the TS.

3000km yearly (which means the car is rarely driven) --> oil is seldomly in contact with blow by gases.

I also interested because our old Civic Esi registered 1000km only in 10 months hehehe.

We have a 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback and this is running perfectly well. Maintenance is done every 5k kms. and it takes more than a year to achieve. Semi synthetic oil din gamit dito. Odometer just passed 80k Kms. recently.

We have a 1993 Corolla Gli still running. Its semi-retired mostly doing school service duties for my kids. The school is within the premises of the subdivision.

Anyway, still following the 5,000km oil change. But it should have at least once a year oil change. And I don't frown on other maintenance works.

Minsan kasi kahit 3k kms ang yearly mileage ng kotse, it may also translate to very short trips and more car starts. I've seen an old car with less than 100k mileage na ginagamit lang panghatid and has more blow-by and lower compression readings than a relatively newer one with more than 150k mileage. The difference is how the cars were used. Mas maraming cold starts and puro short distances na drive lang yung car na bihirang gamitin.

Kaya hindi lang age and mileage ng car ang kailangan i-consider. You might wanna check on the overall condition before deciding on your OCI.

If you are using your car in heavy traffic or frequent short trips, this are considered harsh road or driving condition. The more often you should change your engine oil. An average of 6 months or 5K OCI whichever comes first is the norm for such condition.

I change oil twice a year for all my Benzes, irregardless of usage (they all get used naman, in one way or the other). My youngest Benz is a 1988, the oldest is a 1977.

The Vios stays on the 5K PMS regimen.

basta every 5kms na tinakbo nyo dun nyo na i change oil..wag nyo na sundin ang every 3months, kasi gasoline engine naman yan, di tulad ng diesel engine

5K kms or 6 mos change oil, kailangan pa ba ito sa 17 yrs old car?
